DAWN: The unauthorized new finale to the Twilight series
CHAPTER 6:
VISIT
Here I sat now, my father glaring across the table at me and Edward. We had invited him over to dinner to break the news, and words could not describe how relieved I was to see that he did not bring his shot gun. His eyes were dead set on Edward, who looked back at him with a steady expression. Carlisle sat at the head of the table, looking at me, while I pretended not to notice, though I doubt that I fooled him. Emmett and Rosalie had returned and were in the kitchen helping Esme with the dessert. I felt sorry for them, as they had to eat although they normally don't touch human food. I had once asked Edward what happened when vampires ate food, as they couldn't digest. "We have to cough it up eventually," Was Edward's bleak reply. I knew their bathrooms would be booked up tonight. I glanced at the window, looking to see if Alice and Jasper were returning yet. They were due any minute, and I knew Alice would smooth over Charlie with her mere presence.
"I know it is not the best situation, Charlie," Said Carlisle, "But it seemed they were so much in love that they had to take a trip to the court house. It is natural in young couples."
"Yes…" Mumbled Charlie, "…Young couples."
"The way we were married doesn't truly make a difference, Chief Swan," Said Edward smoothly, "I'm still going to take very good care of your daughter."
Charlie snickered and said, "I've heard that one before."
"It's not your marriage, Dad!" I said suddenly, feeling the confidence I had felt when I had first told him I was engaged. He looked at me, trying to find the right words to prove that he was right and I was wrong.
"Calm down, Bella," Said Carlisle, "It is also natural for your father to be upset."
Who's side was he on. I reached over to take Edward's hand. He tapped it gently to let me know he was there for me, but he did not take it. I knew he was right, Charlie might notice. My mind went back to after our wedding.
* * *
I sat on the black couch in Edward's room, while he stood very still looking out the large window. How long had we sat in silence? An hour? Two hours? Long enough for my eyes to fully adjust to the darkness. I could make out nearly everything. Edward nearly glowed in the dark, like a ghost. I didn't know why he just stood. Was he resisting the task of changing me? Was he looking for the Volturi? What was it?
