Different Lives – (Chapter: Tutoring session)

    Two weeks later

    S:  Hello, Mrs. Davies

A: That Ms. Davies or just Ashley

S:  Yeah right, well the reason why I was calling is because I have noticed that Piper is struggling with her Math and wanted to know if there was something that I could do to help.

A:  I appreciate you calling and I do try to help Piper, but she seems to want to do it on her own without my assistance.

    S:  Well, can I make a suggestion.

    A: Sure

S:  What if she just stays after school on Tuesday and Thursday and I will tutor her during that time.  She is not that far behind, but with a little help she should be right up to speed.

A:  Sure, that sounds great, should I participate in the sessions, just to figure out a way to help her at home.

S:  Yes, that would be great

A:  (Great more time with Mrs. Carlin)

A:  That was your teacher and she said that you will need to stay after school on Tuesday and Thursday to get some extra help with your math.

P:  I don’t want to have to stay at school extra time, I will miss hanging out with my friends.

A:  Mrs. Carlin said you should be up to speed in no time, she just felt you needed a little help.  It probably will not last forever and I will be there to help.

    P:  (sad look) Great

S:  Hi again Ms. Davies or Ashley, I am glad you were able to make it.

A:  It was not problem Mrs. Carlin anything I can do to further my daughters education, I will do it.

S:  Just call me Spencer please.

    A:  Okay Spencer it is.

P:  Are we going to get started soon, I really want to go home so I can play with my friends.

    S:  Sure, lets get started.

One hour later they are wrapping up and Ashley was talking to Spencer one on one.

A:  So, have you lived in LA for long.

S:  No, I moved her from Northern CA with my boyfriend about 6 months ago.

A: (disappointed that she has a boyfriend) so how are you and your boyfriend liking LA.

S:  I really like it, but have not had an opportunity to met a lot of people and explore the sights.

A:  Great then I will show you the sights if that is okay with you.

    S:  That sounds wonderful

A:  Well, Piper will be with her dad this weekend, how about Saturday.

S:  That sounds like a plan, let me give you my cell number so call me say Friday to make arrangements.

A: (wow our first date, but I don’t think that she sees it that way) Cool see you on Saturday. Piper it is time to go are you ready.

P:  (while walking out to the car) Mom you are not going to date my teacher are you.

    A:  I don’t know.  No, she has a boyfriend.

P:  Good, because that would be so weird.
