Flipside – (Chapter: She's What?!)
“Whatever Ash. I’m done.” With that Aiden got up and left Ashley sitting there. Still holding her coffee cup which had turned cold with time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So here I am, back in my house. Kyla and Aiden left this morning and Ashley left last night. She called me telling me that she had to leave early but that she’d miss me and she’d call me on the road.
As for the whole ‘mom’ thing, I told her that I’d change. I have to admit that I can be a great actress if the time calls for it. Not only was she ecstatic about me coming out of my ‘phase’ but she said that she would help pay for me to go to community college. Now, the old me would feel slightly bad because let’s face it, I’m totally using my mom, but truthfully I just don’t care anymore.
So a few months later, a few boys my mom tried to hook me up with, and a few unanswered phone calls to Ashley, I sit down on my bed finishing up some homework. I still keep in touch with Kyla and Aiden from time to time. But as for Ashley, well I’d like to say I’ve given up. From the looks of it I have. I don’t talk about her, I don’t call her everyday or try to contact her through her publicists and mangers. No, I just sit and do my homework, while I listen to her CD and think about her. I know, it’s sad. I’ve actually thought about dating but I can’t chance my mom finding out that I haven’t actually changed for the better.
“Spencer?” Ugh. The bitch wants something again. Sorry, I’ll try to be good.
“Yeah mom?” I say with a fake smile.
“You remember the Jones’ from church?” I hear her ask me and I know exactly where this is going.
“Yeah, they’re nice.”
“Well, I invited over they’re son, Kevin, for dinner.”
“Mom, I have homework to do. And I really don’t appreciate you trying to hook me up. I’m not a kid.” My frustration was getting the best of me.
“You know Spencer, you say you want to change but maybe you’re just lying.” She glares at me and I know she has won. Even though I’ve been saving up my money I still don’t have enough to move out on my own.
“No, mom. I wasn’t lying. I’ll get ready and who knows, maybe he’s the one.” I say with a slight amount of disdain.
“Good girl. Now, I need some groceries for dinner tonight so I’ll be back in a bit.”
“I’ll go get them for you.” I hear myself say instantaneously. I need to get out of this house before I drown to death. “Just give me the list, I’ll be quick.” She hands me the list and I rush out of the house. It was a beautiful day. There was a cool breeze and the afternoon was just becoming the early evening. I get to the supermarket and start picking up the items for dinner. When I’m standing in line for check out something catches my eye. It’s a magazine and Ashley is on the front cover. I try to hide my pain as I read the headline “Davies Engaged”. I pick up the magazine and add it to the groceries. After I pay I race to the car and quickly turn to the page I wanted, no, needed to see. And now I wish I hadn’t.
The pages dripped with pictures of her and a man. Yes a man. I read under the caption of one of the pictures, “Ashley Davies and fiancée Charley Goodman.” I read on and apparently this guy is a big time music man. So here I am reading about the love of my life getting married to a man. I wanted to throw the magazine out the window, but I decided against it. I drove home heartbroken. ‘How many times was she going to do this to me?’ I asked out loud. And with that last thought I brought in the groceries and waited for my date to arrive.
