    Chapter 5…

Ashley led Spencer through her bedroom door and before she could manage to situate the girl on the bed, Spencer had slipped through Ashley’s grasped and and landed ass first on the floor, back to the side of the bed, and hands covering her, tear flooded, eyes. Then Ashley did the same except in a more graceful manor and then slinked her arms around Spencer pulling her in tight.

They sat for a while before Spencer’s sobs’ came to a hault. She was still crying but, only because at that moment her tear ducts seem to have had a mind of their own, and were not about to give up the fight.

“You remember when your dad went to jail for possession?”  Ashley was now sitting crossed legged in front of Spencer, still holding her hands tight in hers.

“How did you-“If Spencer had ever been more confused, she wouldn’t have remembered.

“I’ll take that as a yes…” She made her self even more comfortable on the carpeted, hard, and extremely unbearable floor. “You remember how scared you were?”

“Yeah…but I wasn’t alone.” The memory was foggy but she knew what Ashley was doing.

“That’s right…some one was with you. Some one was there when Glen wasn’t. Helping you cope, right?” Ashley let a gentle smile graze her lips. “Some one who was a complete stranger? You opened up to them…because they opened up to you.”

“Ash…why’d you break your promise?”  This caught Ashley off guard, but she was glad Spencer remembered.

It was almost 5 years earlier…Spencer’s 9th birthday and her dad had been pulled over, with Spencer in the back seat on their way to the toy store. Aurther was going to let Spencer pick out any thing in the store hat she wanted; he said it was her special day. Special isn’t exactly the word for it…half way to the store he was pulled over for suspicion of D.U.I. Spencer was in the police office, balling her eyes out for almost 3 hours before a brown haired vixen walked up and Tried her hardest to calm Spencer down. Within minutes she had her smiling.
