Midwest Transfer – (Chapter: 7-Make or Break)

Jorey stared down at a list of cataloged c.d.’s. She couldn’t decide what she wanted to sing. It seemed like there were too many songs that could explain what she thought about Madison. She wanted to pick something trendy, something that her vocal range could handle, and something that would make Madison’s heart melt. She just didn’t know exactly which of the songs would do that. Just when she thought that she had the right song picked she would come across another one. While she was in the mid thought Ashley was calling her cell phone, “Well Ash what’s the verdict?”

“We perform. You got something picked?”

“Um…not yet. I’m going through some stuff now. Why don’t you come by and you can help me. Oh yeah…don’t forget your guitar.”

“I already have it in the back. I’m headed your way.”

“Alright, I’ll see you in a few.”

Jorey closed her phone and began flipping through her catalog of c.d.’s again. Then she came across a c.d. that she hadn’t seen in years. It was SHeDaisy’s The Whole Shebang. She remembered a track on there that was perfect for an acoustic version. She even had the song book from when she performed it her freshman year. It was called Without Your Love. She knew that she could handle the vocals if Ashley could handle the chords. This was going to be the song to bring Madison back to her.

Ashley arrived only minutes later. She toted her acoustic guitar into Jorey’s bedroom. As she pulled it out of the case Jorey couldn’t help but admire it. It had to be a high dollar guitar, “Nice guitar. Where’d you get it?”

“Um…birthday present from my dad a couple years ago. I never thought I’d be able to put it to use. But I guess the lessons are finally going to pay off.”

“You’ve never played in public before?”

“No. I’ve written songs but I’ve never performed them. It’s kinda my little secret. Ya know the one thing that’s yours and only yours.”

“I know what you mean.” Jorey grabbed the song book, “Here’s the song. Now it’s country. But I thought that we could maybe change it up a little, ya know make it a little bit more rock?”
