On the Edge
Chapter Fourteen
Spencer, Ashley, and Jenna were at the ice cream parlor. Spencer gave Jenna the drink and Ashley looked at Spencer in wonderment. Did Spencer really want to be her girlfriend? “About what you said before on… friends being something more? Do you want us to be a couple?” Spencer turned to look at Ashley.
“I think we are getting on the road of getting back there one day.” Ashley bit her lip.
“You still haven’t forgiven me? Haven’t I proven to be trustworthy towards you and Jenna?” Spencer looked down and Ashley sighed. “I… I did not want to go in to this, but I really tried with our friendship. It is not enough for me. Maybe it is for you. I still want us to be more. You are the one who needs to choose what we are. I am tired of us going back and forth.” Ashley leaned in and kissed Spencer softly. Spencer cupped Ashley’s face and Ashley pulled back from the kiss. “I am going to go now. Come see me when you made a choice.” Ashley left the ice cream parlor and Spencer sighed.
Spencer was replaying Ashley’s words in her mind. Ashley looked back into the ice cream parlor and noticed Spencer had not moved from her seat. She went into her Porsche and started her car. Ashley failed to see that Spencer started to get up and took Jenna out of her highchair. Spencer put Jenna in the car seat and went to go after Ashley. She saw Ashley beginning to speed off in her Porsche. “Ashley! Ashley, come back!” Spencer sighed in exasperation. “Our timing has always seemed to be off.” Spencer was holding the car seat in one hand and took out her cellular phone.
Spencer dialed Ashley’s cellular phone, but it kept on ringing. “Hey it’s Ashley. You reached my voicemail. If you want me leave a message and I will get back to you if I feel like it. Laters.” Spencer heard the beep.
“Hey Ash. It’s uh me Spencer. I… I do want to be with you. I… just…panicked again. I tried going after you, but you drove off. Could you meet me at Santa Monica pier tonight at eight so we could talk? It would…” The machine cut Spencer off telling her that she went past the exceeded amount of time for the voicemail. Spencer sighed in exasperation and hung up. She made another call.
