Out Of My Element – (Chapter: In A Place Where We Only Say Goodbye)

"Spencer, are you there?" I asked, Alex shooting me a dirty glance as she got off of the bed and picked up her shirt and put it back on. There was heavy static on the line.
"Ash, it’s Aiden." He sounded calm. Not something I’d expect from a phonecall at, I looked at the clock, 11:40?.
"Aiden?! What are you doing calling me this late?"
"It’s Spencer. She got..an accident..meet me..center..room 50.." He kept breaking up. I hated it when phones lost service. "Take it slow, I can barely hear you. Where are you?"
"The L.A. Medical Center…just come. I could use company…room 507." I got up and grabbed a shirt out of my dresser.
"I’ll be there as soon as I can." I hung up and tossed the phone onto the bed as I slipped the shirt over my head. Alex just sat there looking pissed off at the world. ‘Are you kidding me?’ I thought to myself. ‘How selfish can someone possibly be?’
"My friend just got in a car accident, I need to be there." I rushed around and grabbed a hoodie, pulling it over my head. She got up and walked towards the door.
"I’ll call for a ride." She flipped open her phone and dialed a number.
"Sorry." I mumbled as I snatched my phone off the bed and grabbed my keys and my handbag. I opened the door and let her out. I followed, locking the door behind me.
"Is someone coming?" I asked as I walked down the steps.
"Yeah they’ll be here in a few."
"Ok. I’m sorry. It was nice meeting you anyways." I said as I got into my car and cranked the engine. I didn’t really mean it. We both knew it would’ve turned out to be a one-night stand with an awkward morning to follow.
"Whatever." She mumbled taking a seat on the curb. I took one look at her and decided that she’d be alright. This place wasn’t sketchy, or else I wouldn’t live here. I looked around to make sure there were no bystanders that could take advantage of her. I began to pull away and as I did I rolled down the window.
"Three eight four, forty one eleven!" I yelled. I’m sure she’d call me or someone if anything happened. I peeled out and headed for the hospital. Thinking about what possibly could have happened and what condition Spencer might be in I stopped my current train of thought and began questioning what was on my mind. I barely knew Spencer, I mean, we clicked but we still barely knew each other and I was already worried about her well-being more than Aiden’s feelings, who had called me in search of a friend to keep him company. My thoughts went back to Spencer. She was probably just asleep and Aiden didn’t want to wake her, or leave her alone. ‘She’s not in a coma or anything.’ I silently reassured myself. ‘Probably just asleep or drugged up on meds.’ I turned up the stereo and focused on the highway, not letting my worries get the best of me.
