Ch.31

Spencer’s POV:

          I felt like I was floating… everything was cast in a brilliant white light; so brilliant that I was blinded by it. “Spencer.” I looked up and saw my grandma calling me. “Granny!” I yelped in excitement. It had been so long since she had passed away; so long since the last time I had seen her. I ran towards her. “Spencer! Spencer!” A familiar cry stopped me dead in my tracks. I turned around, but I didn’t see anyone. “Ashley?” I wondered out loud. But Ashley wasn’t even there; she was a bodiless voice coming out of nowhere. I started walking towards my grandma again, whose arms were outstretched, waiting to give me a hug. “Spencer, please! I need you; you can’t die on me!” Ashley cried out again. I saw my grandma starting to drift further away from me now…”Grandma! Wait!” I said, trying to catch up to her. But she was already out of my grasp. “Stay.” My grandma whispered. “She needs you.” With that, she disappeared. And  all of a sudden everything went pitch black.

I woke up gasping for breath. It felt like my chest was being crushed by thousand pound weights. “She’s back.” A male voice said. I opened my eyes, seeing only bright lights and doctors with masks looking down at me. “Spencer!” a young brunette cried out, pushing some of the doctors aside. “You’re alive.” She whispered, kissing me. Her eyes were brimming with tears. I gave her a strange look. “Who are you?” I asked, feeling uncomfortable in her embrace. She recoiled and gave me a look of horror. “What do you mean who am I?” she asked incredulously. “It’s me; Ashley. Your girlfriend.” She cooed, bending down to give me a kiss on the forehead. “My girlfriend?” I asked in shock. “What are you talking about? I don’t even know you.” I said bluntly. The truth was I didn’t. I also had no idea where I was (other than some hospital, of course) and how I even got here.  “Spencer!” I turned to see people I actually did recognize: my mother, my father, Glen, and Clay. “You’re alive!” my father exclaimed, hugging me gently. “Glad you made it, Spencer.” Glen said, squeezing my hand. Clay gave me a hug also. My mom leered at the brunette. “Mom…do you know who she is?” I asked. My mom whipped her head around to face me. “She is the little slut you’ve been dating for about 2 years now.” She sneered. “Paula.” My dad said tightly. “What? What are you guys talking about?! I don’t know her.” I said, sitting up on my bed and waving my arms around a little. “How could I ever have dated her if I don’t know her?” My entire family and the brunette simply gaped at me. “No.” the brunette said softly. “Spencer. You know me. I’m Ashley. Ash. You love me. You live with me. You’re my girlfriend, my love, my soulmate.” She whispered, tears now trailing down her cheeks.
