So close yet so far away.

“Hi you have reached Ashley Davies, sorry I couldn’t get to the phone I am singing my heart out. Leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.” Her sultry voice flowed through the receiver and into my ear and I smiled instantly. I missed her so much and the sound of her voice made me miss her so much more. She has been on tour for almost three months and won’t be back for another two. My baby is a rock star and she changes the lives of so many people. I was so lost in my thoughts I almost missed the beep signaling me to speak.
“Hi my love, I was hoping I would catch you before your show but I guess your fitting in a quickie with one of your groupies.” I giggled slightly after I had said that. “I’m joking I just wanted to wish you good luck and say I love you, bye.” I hung up the phone and went to go check on our two year old daughter Kieris. She is Ashley’s biological daughter and my adopted daughter, either way she is both ours and I love her so much. I opened the door to her nursery and smiled when I saw her quietly trying to read one of her books upside down. She was babbling away in that baby language only her an Ashley could understand. You have no idea how many times I have walked in a room to hear her and Ashley having a very deep conversation.
“Kieris.” I cooed and she looked at me with those beautiful brown eyes that reminded me so much of Ashley.
“ Mama wook I weadin a book.” She handed me the book as she stood up in her crib asking me to take her out.
“Can I hear you read baby?” I asked as I took her out of her crib at sat her on my lap in the rocking chair next to her crib. She nodded her head and began to read. I couldn’t help but smile as she made her own story to go along with the pictures in the book.
“An den the dogie give the oda dogie a wowi pop pecus he was sad, the end.” She closed the book and turned around in my arms and I held her close as I kissed her forehead.
“You wike it Mama?” She smiled as she waited for my answer. No I didn’t like it I loved it. She was such a loving baby that I sometimes wondered how such a little person could have so much love to give.
“I loved it, you’re an excellent reader.” She gave me that infamous nose crinkling smile that only her and Ashley possessed. I reached over to the night table close by and grabbed the calendar close by. It was part of our nightly ritual, we would cross out the day on the calendar so Kieris could keep count of the days until Ashley came home. I pointed to the date and she crossed it out.
“Mommy come home soon I wiss her.” She kissed the picture of Ashley like she did every night.
“I know honey I miss her too.” She kissed my cheek and rested her head on my shoulder while she yawned.
“I wuv you Mama and you too Mommy.” She said this a she slowly drifted of to sleep.
“I love you too sweaty so so much.” I whispered in her ear as she fell asleep. Shortly after I began to dose off myself with two people on my mind. My beautiful baby girl Kieris and my beautiful wife.
