The Slayer Chronicles: Episode 1 – (Chapter: 1 – The Big City)
“We’re definitely not in Sunnydale anymore.”
Kennedy and Willow shake their heads in agreement with Dawn as they lay their heads back to get a better look at the buildings surrounding them.
“Tell me again why WE were picked to go to New York…”
“I think it had to do with the fact that Dawnie’s a whiz at this Watcher stuff, I’m a proven ass kicker, and you’re the one that could find a Slayer… well, could find a Slayer anywhere.”
“Oh yeah… Darn that scythe thingy anyway. Who would’ve thought the side affects would be Slayer-Vision? Why couldn’t I have gotten super strength or… or… telepathy or something? Instead, I get to see little blue halos around the heads of slayers. I’m just glad it’s only when I’m all trancey and stuff. That would be really strange to see a blue ring around your beautiful head all the time.”
“Hey look… a real New York hotdog vendor! Can I get one? PLEASE????”
“OK Dawn… but, don’t talk to any strangers. I’d hate to have to mess someone up our first day here.”
“OK mother Kennedy,” she giggles as she turns to go.
They watch Dawn run off to get her first taste of New York. Both of them know that this assignment, their first assignment, will be the hardest. They might as well enjoy their first day here. That’s why they decided to tour downtown. To get a feel for the city they will be spending a few weeks in.
Dawn skips back, hotdog in hand. She takes a huge bite. Suddenly frowning and with her mouth full, she says, “They taste like the ones from home. What’s the point?”
“The point is that just because it’s the Big Apple, it doesn’t mean that everything is that different here. Come on, we need to get back to our hotel and get some rest. We’ve all been up a long time and Willow will need some energy to work her little ‘tracking’ spell.”
“And I need to work some of these kinks out from traveling. Maybe if Dawn goes to sleep early…” Kennedy thought with a little grin. It has been a long time since she and Willow have had any romantic time for themselves. “And we need to check in with Giles. Now, which one of you has that stupid subway schedule?”
