Visions
“Alice!” I fumed. “Get in here now, or I swear I will break your neck!” I continued to scream at her. Delaying the shouting match, she slowly danced in with an annoyingly untroubled expression on her porcelain face.
“You. Took. All. The. Normal. Clothes. Out. Of. My. Closet.” I said, my voice calm but my body trembling with anger.
“No Bella,” she replied in that innocent, musical tone that was incredibly hard to doubt. “I just refined your choices a little bit so that you could improve your fashion sense.”
I just rolled my eyes at her and said, “Be serious Alice, look at what you’ve done!” feeling the calm mask starting to slip and being replaced by pure fury.
“Just because I’m immortal now it does not give you permission to destroy and burn all the clothes that are actually wearable!”
At that moment Edward subtly came in and wrapped his marble arms around my new body.
“Bella, love,” he murmured into my ear, his breath sending a shiver down my spine as he spoke.
“Calm down, you would regret hurting Alice later, would you not?” he coaxed me as he pressed his lips to mine. As usual, all of my concentration was lost and all previous worries forgotten.
In the background, I could hear Alice slowly slipping out of the room but that thought was already at the back of my mind. Instead, I couldn’t hear, see or feel anything that wasn’t Edward; my head was spinning and in that moment he was my everything, my whole world and, of course, the first of the two things that I could not bear to live without. That train of thought, however, then made my head come swiftly crashing back to earth. Renesmee. Our daughter. Reluctantly, I broke off the kiss and let out a huge disappointed sigh. His topaz coloured eyes smouldered as he had that same upset look on his face.
Suddenly, his expression changed abruptly and now his beautiful face turned distressed and angry. Instantaneously, he dragged me into the lounge room where the whole of my family, including Jacob, stood crowding around one person. Alice. Her pixie-like face was as blank and hard as stone with a horror-struck expression masking her eyes as the vision ran through her mind. Edward’s face twisted in pain as he let out a gasp of anguish at her thoughts. My eyes focused on my Renesmee at the centre of the crowd, looking worried and confused as she stared at all the tormented faces of the people that she loved. She placed her hand on Edward’s neck, obviously to ask what was happening to make everyone so upset.
“Our family,” was the single sentence he whispered. However, in that one second the whole of my finally perfect and complete family knew that something was coming. Something disastrous and incurable was coming. For us.
