Ashley

Her body is shaking, sweat dripping from every crevice, every inch of her body. The vomit is all down her shirt, blood seeping from the holes in her arms. She’s on her knees, her hands clawing at a distant figure in the darkness. ‘Spencer,’ she whispers, crawling her way towards the body. ‘Help me.’ Spencer walks over to Ashley, staring at the broken girl lying at her feet. Ashley reaches up, her hand reaching for Spencer. But Spencer doesn’t take Ashley’s hand. Ashley feels a breeze where her heart used to be. She sees it lying on the floor in front of her, Spencer’s shoe inches away. ‘No, Spence, please don’t,’ she whispers, as Spencer presses down.

Ashley opens her eyes, her entire body shaking. Next to her, Spencer lay sleeping.

Spencer

She can’t find Ashley amidst the bodies on the dance floor. She’s throwing people aside, squeezing through them, grabbing girls by their shoulders, anxious to find her girlfriend. She hears a laugh, turns her head. Ashley is dancing with someone Spencer can’t quite make out, their bodies inches from each other. ‘Ashley!’ But Ashley doesn’t turn towards Spencer. She kisses the girl in front of her, hands roaming, and Spencer feels as if she’s going to stop breathing. She reaches the two girls, whipping Ashley’s face to hers. But she doesn’t touch Ashley, can’t touch her. Ashley takes the girl’s hand in hers and leads her out of the club. Spencer stands still, watching as Ashley walks away from her, out of her life forever. She feels a breeze in her chest, where her heart used to be.

Spencer wakes up in a cold sweat. Next to her, Ashley lay sleeping.
