    17 Reasons Why… (Chapter 2)

    Previously…

"The instructions were to give you this after you read the card." She explained, as Bette reached out and accepted the lone blossom. "Not sure why or what it means." The woman continued with a shrug, as Bette looked up, her disbelieving eyes traveling the entire length of the flawless green stem before settling on the perfect, crimson petals.

"A single rose in full bloom," Bette paused and bit her lower lip before continuing with her explanation. "A single rose in full bloom means ‘I still love you.’"

The tall brunette lowered her gaze back to the card she still clutched in one hand, glanced briefly at the flower arrangement still lying on the desk, then looked back at the card, whispering the words under her breath.

    CHAPTER 2

    24 Hours Earlier…

Tina found herself standing on the porch of the house she’d called home for more than seven years, nervously wringing her hands together as she debated whether to ring the doorbell, or simply use her key. She swallowed hard as she pressed the pad of her finger against the illuminated button. Tina waited for what seemed like an eternity before slipping the cool metal key into the lock, surprised to find the door already unlocked.

“Bette, I’m here.” Tina called out as she pushed open the front door and peeked her head inside.

“Come on in, Tina.” Bette called out from the direction of the master bedroom.

Tina fully opened the door, and stepped over the threshold. She sighed as she looked around the living room that had changed very little in the year since she’d most recently moved out. She settled herself on the ottoman near the front door and quickly found herself staring out the window at nothing in particular.

“Hey, sorry about that. I was completely buried in packing.” Bette apologized a few moments later as she emerged from the hallway, her suitcase rolling behind her. “I guess you didn’t hear my yell for you to let yourself in.”

“No problem.” Tina answered as she nervously brought her hands together and interlaced her fingers. “So what can I do to help?” Her tone was sincere, but she ever so lightly bit down on her lower lip, nearly revealing her ambivalence about helping her ex-wife as she tried to win back Jodi’s affections.

    1. YEAH! You posted early, and in fact I was taking a break from updating my next chapter to read yours. Excellent, can’t wait for the next one. I also wanted to throw in a little something about your author’s notes, I want Skipton to write again too! LOL!

    2. Poor naive Bette.. Alice is right, for such a smart woman.. *shakes head* Ooh, but T’s nervous neck-rub.. That is so cute when she does it :) Thanks for updating; it’s a very good story so far. Post soon x

    3. Tina really hates you, yea right she is probably kicking herself that she sisn’t grab you and kiss you right back. Hope we get another chapter soon.

    4. Tina so should have grabbed her and reallly given her a kiss before she left. Parts of that episode made me so happy, and other parts made me want to kick someones ass. IC are you listening. Great update and explanation for those who didn’t know what was going on. Now can we have the continuation of the flowers and note she sent to Bette. Please can your Bette not be a complete naive, and utter mormon, and realize what Tina is really trying to say.

    5. coop, that typo made me giggle. “Utter MORMON?” *snicker* :) Anyway, Bette is damn dumb. lol And I still can’t believe Tina helped Bette. I wouldn’t be that nice.

    6. who needs me to write when we’ve got you back??? can’t tell you how much i’m enjoying this tale of yours. has already moved to one of my definite favorites. don’t keep us waiting too long for more…

    7. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that you are writing again! You have been missed. I am already totally hooked on your story. I love the intensity…they are so not over each other. Don’t keep us waiting too long for another chapter.

    8. But is Tina going to believe what Alice is going to say about Bette’s feelings. The two of them are like high schooler’s passing notes in study hall. They really need to talk about it. But it appears that Tina is brave enough throw the first ball out. How nervous she must be waiting for Bette’s response…Thanks for the update!!!

    9. YAY! As I told you earlier in chapter 1, I’ll tell you here, a big welcome back. The flavor of certain authors who have been sorely missed are returning with spectacular stories. This is a gem. I love how you provided insight into that depth that continues to be present between the two women. I’m completely hooked, so please post when you can, but sooner would not be something I would object to. LOL! Thanks Steph.

    10. How great is it to have you writing again. And I love this story. Adult conversation. What a concept! Keep the chapters coming. It’s a pleasure to read.

    11. “Now what about Santa Monica Blvd?” …I know it’s been a while, but didn’t your last story stop as Bette was having breakfast in a restaurant with a friend and Tina came walking along and saw her? Or, was Tina with her friend Kim? Or, was Alice with Kim? I don’t know, I just know I really liked your last story and we were just about to have Bette and Tina meet cute and work things out. …I’m still waiting…but this story will certainly appease my Tibetter heart whilst I wait. Thank you!

    12. i always go back to, dont assume…. ive found that talking and really listening and not trying to prove a point helps in conversations with each other, even if its painful. thanks.

    13. Yeah! 2nd instalment was fantastic! Wish we could bang the girl’s heads together to make them see sense, but until then i’ll make believe through your story! Please post soon.

    14. Caught up and so glad I waited so I could read both chappies together! I love this story and can’t wait until the next post! This filled in the gap from what we saw so well, and I can’t wait until you post the next chapter! You’re on a roll, so you might as well reward your loving fans again by posting early! So glad you’re back here and hope that also re-post all of your stories!

    15. Yes, My tibette heart is happy once again! So glad to see you writing and posting for us – your stories are always a pleasure to read and enjoy. I am happy to see you writing about what will happen to Tina and Bette after season 4 left us hanging…. Have you seen the promos for season 5? if so…what do do think? Always a fan — thank you for taking the time to write!

    16. Bette is so clueless at times. She should really listen to Alice and maybe really listen to what her heart is telling her. Sometimes Bette uses her head too much and not her heart.

    17. Oh yeah, that pretty much captured why everyone was so frustrated with Bette at that point (Jodi being the possible exception). I don’t think her blindness is the result of naivete, but a lingering, misguided self-protection from all the hurt that Tina has caused her. Her relationship with Jodi is lingering and misguided, too. So Tina needs to get off her ass and use a sledge hammer to apply the salve to Bette’s thick skull and thick defenses.

    18. Hey, I like this beginning, though I find it strange that Bette had to explain Tina the meaning of flowers : I would have thought the other way round, Tina being the “green thumbs” of the family :-) —- Bette can really be so stubborn and blind when she is unsure of herself ;-) Please, keep posting :-)) and how about a repost of your previous stories… I like to read all the awarded stories, and yours is not online any more… it would be nice to be able to read it now :-) Thanks

    19. Just catching up and it’s great to see you are posting another story. Really liked your take on Bette’s thoughts on the whole Jody attraction. Looking forward to the next chapter. Thank you!
