A Certain Sunday Morning (Time of Day 38)

Tina awoke to see someone in her room, at her nightstand. “Wha?”

“Shhhh, T.” Bette sat on the edge of the bed. “It’s just me.”

“What? I, uh, don’t recall that you had keys to my place.” She leaned forward, trying to see the clock. “What time is it, anyway?”

    “Five.”

    “Five. A.M.?”

    “That five,” Bette confirmed.

Tina lay back on the bed with a groan, slamming her eyes shut, and tossing an arm over them, just for good measure. “It’s still dark out, Bette. What are you doing here?”

“I, uh, wanted to see you, about something.”

The tone, the delivery, and, of course, the word choice were all intriguing. Something. Was that good? Bad? “If you came to dump me, Bette, can you return in a couple hours with coffee.”

    “Dump you.”

“C’mon, Bette. The most I’ve heard from you in the last few days is the handwriting in the Mother’s Day card from Angelica.”

    “That was a lovely card.”

“It was a lovely card, babe. I liked the glitter. But you didn’t respond to my phone messages.” Another thing dawned upon Tina. “And where did you get keys to my place?”

    “Alice.”

    “Of course.”

“She thought you’d want me to have them.”

“Whatever.” Tina was planning to give Bette her own set, the way things had been going. It was just one of those things that never came off the “to do” list.

“Thank you for your card, too.”

    “I didn’t use glitter.”

    “Doesn’t matter.”

Tina realized that the primary question she asked had yet to be answered. “What are you doing here, Bette?”

    “I thought we should celebrate.”

    “Celebrate?”

“Mother’s Day. The reason for the cards that we exchanged.”

“Happy Mother’s Day, Bette.” Tina placed a hand on Bette’s thigh. She worked one eye open, and could see Bette looked somewhat disheveled. For Bette. She was dressed in yoga pants and shirt, covered with an old sweatshirt that she’d cut the neck out of at some point, following some old movie fashion trend.

“Don’t you want to celebrate together?” Bette asked, sounding a little disappointment at the lack of enthusiasm.

    1. Sorry, I haven’t commented much. I’ve been doing the silent reader bit. I love the story and my interest is NOT waning. Keep writing and I will make sure I take the time to comment.

    2. Yup, still liking the story. I always make time to read your posts. Always left wanting more to read. Thankful the business has not yet descended onto your life. Cognizant that it can’t be calm forever…Hope to read more soon!

    3. I read each chapter faithfully and I enjoyed this mother’s day gift.I was wondering if someone would incorporate the day in their story.Loved how Bette put her ring back on.That we will never see on the show.PPS.

    4. Thanks for the great read! What a wonderful Mother’s Day present…I wonder what Angelica is going to say if she finds Mama B in Mama T’s bed!!!

    5. Happy Mother’s Day to all and thank you Pseud for making it a little brighter with Bette and Tina. Maybe now they can continue to work on their relationship and family that includes all of their being.

    6. This was a wonderful chapter and a nice way to celebrate Mother’s day. I think this chapter and the one when Alice calls Bette on her stuff have been my favorite of this story. Hopefully, not too many steps back this time.

    7. OK, so I guess they’ll talk later. And I guess as long as it’s someone resembling Jennifer Beals barging into your bedroom uninvited, it would make the invasion tolerable. Yeah, worse things could happen.

    8. i love me some ALPHA BETTE……..and thank you for this wonderful mother’s day gift……it was awesome…..now, please continue…..lol……..

    9. Aww. That was sweet. I really hope Bette can live up to her promise to work it out. Not just to keep retreating when things get tough. That is one hell of a Mothers Day gift.

    10. A nice chapter. Thanks.Happy Mothers’ day to all those celebrating it today. For once we’re one step ahead of you guys because we’ve already done Mother’s day in the UK. Can’t say I’d object to JB barging into my bedroom uninvited.. at any time of the day or night!

    11. Hello Pseud, Beautiful and tender. There was a real sense of the connection between Bette and Tina there. Ir is instinctive. They just know how to be there for each other. Okay Bette was floored by Tina’s desire to continue their family but now she is ready to admit that it is what she wants as well. Thank you for this most excellent and delightful M day treat. Your Loyal Fan.

    12. God I always seem a chapter or two behind but, well, I’m gonna comment anyway…Pseud totally untrue that interest in this story is waning! I was a silent reader for so long until I realized how much it meant to the writers to get feedback and now I try and comment as much as possible, hmmm, maybe careful what you wish for!! LOL…We ALL love this story and your writing so please never think any different. Okay so on to the chappies – lovely as usual. loved Kit with the “Whay ya’d do?” classic. And so dead on with Bette being too impatient to wait for a reasonable time to go get her woman. Perfect illustration of her personality – she made up her mind and, well, time to act on it!! Please do not stop writing Pseud, I look forward to these chappies as my life is filled with airports and meetings and this is such a great relief from all of that. Hoping you’ll post again soon…

    13. I had to read this again: This IS one of my FAVOURITE CHAPTERS BY ANYONE…not to say I don’t have another fav chapters out there by all my FAV AUTHORS so please don’t be offended anyone…its just this gives me such a NICE (as Tina would say) and I can see the entire lovely scenario…thank you again!!!! and funnyone, absolutely if JB arrived in my room at 5 a.m. for THAT PURPOSE…I’d consider it…lol!!!!
