Bette was hunched over at one of the cafeteria table, her untouched coffee had gone cold and she was staring at her hands deep in thoughts.
The sound of a retracting chair over polished linoleum, startled her and she turned her head to witness Shane prop herself down beside her.
"You’re back on again?" Bette asked wearily.
"Yeah.. you know how it is.. wasn’t supposed to be on so late last night but with that horrible weather.." Shane let her words trail off, knowing that one of the weather’s casualty had been Bette’s Tina.
Bette smiled briefly wanting to express sympathy but failing miserably. Shane did not mind knowing fine rightly that interminable hours were kind of a right of passage in the medical world.
"How is she?" the young A&E doctor asked.
"As well as can be expected. She woke up but she did not recognise me." Bette explained sadly, "But that doesn’t really concern me… it’s kind of normal in trauma patients… I am much more worried about her appearance."
"Bette," Shane reached up and placed her hand on the older brunette’s forearm, "The paramedics pulled her out of a mangled car. What did you expect her to look like?"
"I’m not talking about that, Shane," Bette turned towards the younger woman, "I’ve ordered more test, because I am quite sure something’s wrong ..or was wrong.. and I want to get to the bottom of it."
Shane could see the determination in her friends words.
"Bette have you thought about transferring her case to another doctor..giving the circumstances."
"Why Shane," Bette sudden angry words took the young brunette by surprise, "Because I was once in love with her?"
"No, Bette… because I think the whole experience will be less draining for you…" Shane explained with genuine concern in her voice.
"Have you been home yet?"
The doctor shook her head.
"Then go home, Dr Porter, try and get some proper rest and come back to assess this situation with a clearer head."
As usual the house was devoid of any welcome.
It had been like this from the moment Tina had disappeared. Bette’s life had become insipid and with it her interest in surrounding herself with warmth and beautiful things.

Loving the story but I’m wondering if somehow Tina got some kind of Amnesia which made her disappear . She didn’t recognize Bette so just a theory . 👻👻👻👻

Okay, this was both beautiful and heartbreaking. I think it’s safe to say that you can leave the witness protection program now Kins :) Count me as one of the many that is nearly dying of curiosity about their past. PPS!
WOW I am impressed with the development of this incredible story. I’m really intrigued to know what happened between them. the description of the sex scene left me speechless.the truth is I do not know how long you take to write a chapter of this quality, but what can not be denied is the BIG talent that you have
I am so totally hooked on this story. I’m trying to figure out what/how things could have gone wrong for them and how that pain Jodi came into the picture. I’m hoping you’ll let Tina survive and you’ll bring her back to Bette soon. Please don’t break our hearts. PPS!!! Can’t wait for more.

Great chapter. You write your NC 17 scenes beautifully. Your descriptions of their actions and thoughts relay all the emotions they’re feeling toward each other. I just can’t imagine Tina voluntarily walking away from this relationship. I can’t wait to find out what happened.
