Tina lay sleeping in her and Bette’s bed; she was exhausted from the wonderful night before. Bette was such an attentive lover and always gave Tina the best pleasure she could imagine. But unknown to her knowledge, Bette purposely exhausted Tina to no end so she could set her alarm for 5:30am in order to get up and get Tina’s birthday present. It was Tina’s 35^th birthday and ever since her and Tina had gotten together, Tina had wanted one thing; a puppy. Bette hated animals; they pooped, they smelled, they ruined things, and if she admitted it too herself she probably hated them because she wasn’t allowed to have them when she was young. She was also nervous because she didn’t know the first thing about taking care of a puppy, but that’s where Tina came in. She knew Tina would love this gift, so it was totally worth all the mess and the accidents she knew would come from the puppy.

Before Bette could do anything she had to stop off at Shane’s. The day before she had bought an arrangement of white roses to leave for Tina in the morning so she wouldn’t wake up alone in bed; she left them at Shane’s house so Tina wouldn’t see them. As she quietly made her way over to Shane’s, she turned the corner to Shane’s walk way and was startled when she saw Shane sitting on her porch smoking a cigarette.

“Shit Shane you scared me,” She grabbed her chest in fright. It was sort of dark out still.

 “I thought you were going to leave the key in the mailbox. You didn’t have to wake up,”

“Oh no, it’s no problem. Carmen woke me up; she was having some crazy dream, and I have to get up in a couple hours for work anyway so I just decided to stay up.”

“Oh ok,”

Shane took one last drag of her cigarette and then threw it on her lawn.

“Won’t Carmen get mad at you for that?” Bette said with a smirk as she followed Shane up her steps

Shane laughed, “Yeah, I’m suppose to be quitting but it’s hard you know? I’ll pick it up before I go.”

“Yes I do know,”
