    CHAPTER 24

Bette clasped the scrap of paper tightly in her hand as she slipped behind the wheel.  Tina, who had been waiting patiently in the car, turned to the brunette,

"So, Wills address, huh?"  Tina grabbed the paper out of Bette’s hand and started entering the address into the GPS on the dash.

Bette’s lips twitched, "Good cop, bad cop.  Nice, Kennard."

"She needed a push and I thought that since she had already established somewhat of a rapport with you, that I should be the one to give the nudge.  Besides, something about the fact that she and Wills were together that night – it reeks of bullshit."

Bette stared at the house through the windshield, "I agree.  Something’s not right there.  I just can’t figure it out."

"Do you think she had something to do with it?"  Tina asked as she pulled out Katherine’s file.

Bette shook her head, "No.  She loved Katherine.  That much is clear."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I just am."  Bette gripped the steering wheel and turned toward the blonde.  "She’s scared.  It’s been ten years and she’s frightened, not only in regards to Katherine but in regards to living her own life.  She’s so far in the closet I don’t think she can see the light."

"I just don’t get it," Tina sighed, "I don’t get the fear if that’s truly part of the reason she’s scared.  She’s in her thirties.  She doesn’t live with her parents.  Who cares?"

"Tina, not everyone has parents like yours.  Ellie’s parents are strict Catholics and right wing conservatives.  She was living at home when I first spoke with her.  That environment was stifling.  Hell, I could barely breathe in her parents’ house, I can’t imagine how she grew up there.  Use your ex as an example. Eric was furious with you this morning.  You think Ellie’s parents would have reacted better or worse?  Your parents are lovely and accepting.  Not everyone is that lucky.  And not everyone is as brave as you."

"How did your dad take it when you came out?"

Bette turned her face from Tina’s and stared out the driver’s side window, "He was furious.  It wasn’t a good time.  He learned to accept it on some level later on but I always felt like an extreme disappointment."

    1. Do we really want them to ring that bell – still the thought of Bette being the bad cop – hell yes, ring that bell. Thanks for an amazing story.

    2. Wow, can’t get enough of this story and this Tibette. I’m a sucker for Tibette introduction to some other universe, and you don’t disappoint with this story. Although I love Tibette stories and countless authors on this site, some stories tend to get less interesting once our girls have done the deed, but this one is the total opposite, and keeps us onboard for a fascinating journey. Love the love in the midst of the intrigue and their characters are simply amazing! Thanks a lot!! K.
