    CHAPTER 29

     

    Tina rounded the corner and strode down the hall towards Bette’s room with an enchanting smile plastered on her face.  She had spoken with the nurse on call, which had relayed that Bette had actually been up and walking around.  It had been three days since Bette’s surgery.  Three days since the two women had professed their love and Tina had spent the majority of the past few days practically glued to Bette’s bedside. 

     

    As Tina approached Bette’s room, Dr. Peabody was walking out, scribbling notes on a clipboard.

     

    "Sgt. Kennard.  It’s nice to see you again.  How’s the head?"

     

    Tina laughed, "The head’s just fine, how’s Bette?"

     

    "Up and moving around just fine.  A little on the slow side and I would imagine that she’ll be quite tired later, but it looks as though she’s doing her damnest to get out of here."

     

    "Is that a possibility?"  Tina asked hopefully.

     

    "Yes, I think so.  Another day and she should be ready to go home assuming someone is going to be around to take care of her."

     

    "I think I might be able to handle that.  Does she know that tomorrow is the day?"

     

    "I figured I would let you tell her."  Helena winked at Kennard and sauntered down the hall toward another patient.  Tina turned to watch the doctor walk away, her attention wavering only when the soft voice of a certain brunette called from her doorway.

     

    "See anything you like, Kennard?"

     

    Bette, dressed in a patterned hospital gown and a light blue robe, leaned against the doorframe for support.  Tina turned in surprise, a lump of emotion lodged in her throat upon seeing Bette able to find enough strength to stand on her own feet.

     

    "Now I do."  Tina stepped forward and kissed Bette gently, reveling in the feel of the soft lips against her own.

     

    "Tired?"

     

    Bette nodded and allowed herself to be directed back toward her hospital bed.  Tina, holding to her arm, directed Bette to sit back.  Pulling a chair across the cold tile, Tina sat close, intertwining their fingers and staring into the deep brown mischievous eyes before her.

     

    "You were checking her out," Bette teased.

    10. That was actually kind of funny and sensual at the sme time. Nobody is touching Bette, but Tina. For a minute there I thought that our girls was going to have big problem, when Bette caught Tina looking at Helena, but I am glad that they talked, and Bette understood Tina reasons.
