    Chapter14.

I hung up, trying to act as cool as I could after such sensitive words were said.

Lizzie put something in the microwave and leant back against the kitchen counter, seemingly unaware of the conversation which had been whispered only moments before.

Millie and her friends are going to be in Anathema at eight. I said, picking up the cans of food I had dropped earlier and putting them away.

You two are getting really close arent you?

I stopped what I was doing and turned to Lizzie, she was watching me intently. I knew that look, it was the supportive friend look; when they were happy for you but also worried about you getting hurt at the same time.

Yeah, things are going well. I said absently.

Trix, I think this thing with Millie is great I really do and I love seeing you so happy.

I began putting away the rest of the groceries.

    But?

But, she lives in LA and I don’t want you to get in too deep and then have her go back home.

The microwave pinged, but neither of us moved to take out the food. I knew this conversation had to happen some time, I just didn’t want it to be so soon. Couldn’t I have at least a week of uninterrupted happiness? Was that too much to ask?

I know she lives in LA Liz, its kind of hard to think of anything else to be honest. But I know the score, when she goes back home I probably will never see her again. I took a deep breath, my emotions getting the better of me.

Saying these things out loud was always so much harder than contemplating them in my head. I didn’t want the time I had with Millie to be marred by the fact that she would have to go home. So that meant I had to keep a certain amount of distance between Millie and my heart, if she didn’t get too close then it would be easier to move on when she left. Simple, in theory.

Do you know when she is going back?
