Don’t Give Up #11
As Helena tried to help the nurses pull Tina up from the floor to take a seat on the chair, they performed a few vital checks to her eyes.
Helena took full support of Tina’s body as the nurses went to find a bed to put her on. All this was too much for all of the women, Bette was still unconscious and had no idea of what was happening before her.
The vanilla skinned brunette knew she would have to take care of them both and make them come to their sense; if now more than ever. The nurses came back with a bed for Tina and hooked her up to all types of machinery. The sight was heartbreaking.
“Please take care of her, she’s pregnant”. The medical team nodded as they took note of that information and placed it on the paperwork.
Helena had to talk to a few doctors about Tina’s medical history and how far along gone she was with the pregnancy. Helena was unsure of how to answer their questioning as herself and Tina hadn’t even spoke of such things. But still she tried to help give them answers where possible.
Helena decided to call Kit, she was unsure if she knew about her sister’s accident and she needed all the help she could get right now. She stayed with Bette for a while as she wasn’t able to be with Tina while they were carrying out tests. Instead she sat and waited that’s all she could do right now.
She covered Bette’s hand with her own, hoping to gain a response from such intimate contact. But Bette’s body remained there lifeless almost, she stroked the mocha brunette’s lean fingers and sighed.
She thought her life was a mess; she was counting her blessings now. Tina was her close friend and although Bette and herself didn’t share the same relationship she still cared deeply for her health and well-being.
Kit arrived at the hospital in a state of frenzy, “How’s my baby girl doing”, her words choking as they spelt out; she crushed Helena into a bear hug that was much need considering the events of how tonight had turned out.
Helena released herself from the hug to see they were both indeed crying, “They haven’t told me anything Kit, as I’m not related I don’t have a right to know apparently. You should find out, Tina’s here too.” She shook her head in disbelief.
“What Tina was in the car with Bette? I didn’t even know they were talking again!” She was shocked at the current change of dynamics.
“No Tina came here with me but, she collapsed so now she has been whisked off for all sorts of god knows what tests and treatment.”
Kit leaned into Helena, understanding they were both worried and unsure of what the night would bring.
Helena sat still somewhat like a statue; she didn’t want to break Tina’s trust at a time like this, by telling Kit she was pregnant. She thought it was best to stay clear of mentioning Tina’s current state, and that way technically she wasn’t lying.
Kit had finally managed to speak to a doctor who discussed Bette’s case. He had told her that Bette had suffered severe damage to her pelvic bone, the bone had been grinded and broken as they pulled her from the car through the window. He did apologise to some extent that some injuries may have been caused during the pursuit of getting her out of the car. Kit didn’t seem to care, she was just glad she was alive that’s all she could ask for.
Bette had internal bruising on her rib cage and suffered a deep gash to her forehead, she had been lucky a passerby had called when they did. Her legs had been crushed by the force of impact from the other car involved. But the doctor had said it was superficial bruising to her legs and they should heal fine.
“As for her pelvic bone being broken, she may have to be referred as and when if she decides to start a family as this is really important to manage. And it would be in her best interest also.”
Kit nodded trying to access all the information given, she wasn’t even sure if Bette would ever want to have a child naturally never mind all the extra worry that would come with it if she did. She sighed as she thanked the doctor for all their help and made her way back to Helena in Bette’s room.
Helena looked thoroughly shattered but refused to go home and told Kit she was going to find out how Tina was doing. And she would be back in the morning to see how Bette was doing. With a small hug shared she left the room in search of Tina.
Eventually after 30minutes of getting nowhere with medical staff she finally found where Tina was. She was being situated within the maternity ward, as there wasn’t any space within the private maternity ward.
Tina was delighted to see her friend, she had been separated and unsure what had even happened. She was worried about Bette more so than herself. Nothing seemed to make sense.
As Helena took a seat the doctor came in to talk to Tina; “It seems you haven’t been taking the best pre-natal care have you Tina. You gave us all quite a shock there, you are suffering from exhaustion and dehydration that’s what caused you to collapse. But the bleeding is a common thing during pregnancy; but not too the extent you lost. We think it was caused by the baby who seemed to be in distress”.
Both Tina and Helena were stunned, Helena hadn’t seemed to notice anything was wrong with Tina until tonight. She should have known.
The doctor continued, “We have done a few scans and taken measurements of your stomach and checked the length of the baby and circumference. We were concerned at the child’s growth, until we found out you wasn’t as far gone as we initially thought. So no need to worry the baby is fine, but you need to take better care of yourself and the baby. We don’t want to see you in here again Tina. We want to keep you in for a few days to be on the safe side, and if you’re to find yourself bleeding if you do to get yourself straight to the hospital”.
The woman’s voice was stern and serious; Tina knew she had to take better care of herself, she didn’t want to end up back in here.
Her thoughts turned to Bette, as the doctor left the two women alone. She was scared more than she had been in her whole life, she had nearly lost a child she wanted to abort and the woman she left for various reasons.
Life was a dark room right now. Worse than prison and being barricaded behind the iron bars. She wanted to let her heart trust the brunette once more; she loved her and always would. She hadn’t or nor would she look at another woman the same way. She wished her mind could erase all the hurt she was feeling deep down.

Yes I do trust you and from that last statement Tina was thinking to herself, I think I might be right and wise to trust you. We shall see. Hopefully Tina will be up to visiting Bette in the next day or so before she leaves the hospital. Saying that, I do believe that she will want to stay with Bette when she herself is released from the hospital or get a bed moved into Bette’s room so they can be together. She is still very much in love with Bette and Bette’s well-being is all she is concerned about along with the baby she is carrying. Her thoughts have told us that. Hopefully Kit won’t read her the riot act when she comes to see about Bette. It is none of Kit’s business if they are seeing or talking each other again, but Kit needs to know that Tina is pregnant. Great update. Thanks for posting.
Enjoyed the update. Thanks
i also will trust you.. and every thing my good friend Dainty said… goes for me too… off to Hawaii for me… will catch up when i get back…pps
Glad they are both okay. The trauma of all this maybe what brings Tina back to Bette. She obviously still loves her. And I think hearing the doctor say that the bleeding was caused by the baby being in distress will make her rethink the abortion. But, only you can answer that. Great update. Good luck with the walk-a-thon.
Good that the baby isn’t dead. I’m so totally against abortion when the mother our the parents have the resouces to give the child a good life. If the parents can’t even care for themselfs properly than I understand it… Okay, why am I putting this here? No, idea…. I love your story and please continue!!
Tina had to do her own decisions. This is not a discussion point between the girls.Great story, thank you again.
I like this story. For me it never felt like Tina really wanted to abort. When she struggled what to say to Bette I thought she needed to know that even then Bette would be by her side she needed to know that Bette loved her and not only the body how was needed to bring her child into this world. Because of this I think Tina will not really have to change her mind to keep the child. I’m waiting for your next chapter. Thank you and please post soon.
Great update. Glad the baby is ok. I hope Tina is able to see Bette. THank you for this story.
i’m so happy that everyone is okay for the moment… hope it says that way. i can really sympathize with Tina’s hurt and confusion but if she truly loves Bette i think she can find t in her heart to forgive her. PPS
