Every Glance Speaks – Chapter 11

    ~ Bette Porter ~

My head’s spinning at a ridiculously dizzying rate. I don’t know what she’s doing to me. All the times I barricaded myself beyond intrusion and she just steps right though on her first attempt? And I’m letting her? It’s such an enigmatic sensation; this letting go, this freedom. I don’t know how much I can take; she seems to push my limits.

When I talk about Kit, my eyes automatically moisten. When she divulges facts about Eric, hers immediately drench. In those moments our hands find each other.

I catch sight of the clock; it’s late. Or early, depending on how you see it. We’ve not spoken about what she’s going to do, what we’re going to do. We’d spent all the time talking about the past, listening to the other’s experiences and attempting to piece together the mystifying puzzle we found ourselves opposite.

Now that it’s nearing the end, I don’t know what to say, what to do. I just know that I don’t want her to return to Eric tonight. Not with the mood he was in.

“Bette?” Her voice is quiet and shaky. My heart immediately skips. “I.. I should- It’s late.. I should go.”

She’s struggling with the words, that’s obvious. She’s clearly remembered her loving significant other too.

“What about Eric?” I ask, not knowing whether or not they live together.

She shrugs and bites down on her lip. Her eyes are screaming to me; speaking louder than any of the words between us. She doesn’t want to go. She can’t go. I know the response in my eyes is telling her not to leave; pleading.

    And Bette Porter never pleads.

“Perhaps you shouldn’t go home tonight”

It was said quickly; fast enough to provide me with the doubt that I’d said it at all. Her silence was painful; she was smiling but it was a sad, ghost what I knew her smile to be. The pain in her eyes cut through me swifter than any blade could.

“I have to face him at some point” she says quietly.

I know it’s true, she can’t just avoid him forever; they’re engaged after all.

    She doesn’t love him.

I’m completely out of my depth here; drowning in these fresh emotions. So new and enticing yet so utterly terrifying. I don’t know what to do, I’m just sat in before her, mind racing through possible situations.

    1. Of course I still like your stories and I always will! But when I bow to you I´m showing how much I admire your writting!:D Eric really needs to dissapear! xDTFC :D

    2. Their “homicidal maniac” banter was extremely sexy IMO. I’m very relieved that Tina is postponing her encounter with the homicidal Eric. Now bring on the night!

    3. AD, what can I possibly say? Your writing moves me, and truly captures all there is to bringing a mental picture completely alive in ones mind. Albeit here, or in comments you leave to me, or writing that I read in other forms and avenues, you are truly a gifted writer, and very deserving of an award. I for one will be supporting you in that area, for I truly believe you epitomize brilliance. Thanks so much, and bring on this anticipated evening. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself hun. * hugs *
