    Family Woman (Chapter 2)

It wasn’t as hard as she thought it might be to make the scrambled eggs, and the rest would be easy to prepare. Bette took deep breaths, wondering who she could call while she cooked. She would leave as soon as possible to find some answers.

“Thank you hunny,” Tina smiled, kissing Bette’s shoulder quickly before grabbing a plate and utensils, and leaving them at the table.

As Bette watched her do so, she found herself smiling at what a wonderful mother Tina seemed to be. She also found herself wondering how she could have left her all those years ago. Had she been out of her mind?

“You’re gonna burn them,” Tina chuckled, finally turning to see the way Bette was admiring her. “You are something else this morning, you know that?” She walked past Bette shaking her head, “I’m gonna make sure she’s getting dressed in there.”

When Tina had returned, she was astonished at the Barney plate she had put out for Angelica. There was a mountain of scrambled eggs on it, two pieces of toast, and a large glass of milk. It was enough food for a starving athlete. “Bette!” she gasped laughingly, seeing that Angelica had run to the spot with excitement, digging in immediately. “Bette – do you want her to double in size or what? Geez, look at this!” She laughed, picking up the plate and looking back to Bette who just shrugged.

“Nooo,” Angelica whined,  pouting at what Tina had taken away. She wanted to double in size.

“Bette,” Tina began again with a breath of laughter, “Here, take some of this, you crazy jokester.” Once she had left only enough for Angelica, she chuckled and disappeared once again. “I’m gonna get ready. You two be good out there.” And she disappeared behind the wall.

Bette sat opposite Angelica at their kitchen table, taking a bite of the food although she wasn’t hungry. She wanted to act as though everything were normal. She could pretend to be this woman … a mother even – only until she could leave the house and search for her answers. Strangely, a part of her knew enough not to frighten the child. She lifted her eyes to the little girl who was eating clumsily. “So.” This wasn’t a work conference, but she simply didn’t know how to relate to a child.

    1. Despite the fact that I think Nicolas Cage is perhaps the least attractive man in showbiz and generally hate most of his movies (except Moonstruck) I like your story so far. Then again, it’s really no surprise, b/c you are the author!

    2. Oh bi tell you’re gf that I’m grateful to her for letting you come out and play with us. Awesome update, I lol at the hearty plate Bette prepared for Angie. Good stuff, thanks bi ;)

    3. “Not to poke around the beady little eggs.” Hah-hah…I can’t even imagine the real BP saying that. Funny lines. Loved this chappy. You know Bi…if you turned in this story…it may be far more entertaining to your professors than those boring papers. Surely a smile would constitute 90% of the grade. Just a crazy thought…thanks for posting so quickly. This story makes me smile…inside and out!!

    4. Too funny. Bette in a hardware store, getting her hands dirty and knowing about tools and such, and working with common people, in Canada, this is much too sureal. I want to know how they got there first and what she thinks happened to her and Tina and their relationship. Good luck with your exams and papers. Post when you can.

    5. So cute and funny – thank you! Bette working in a hardware store… LOL!!! That must be the most popular hardware store in the whole of Canada, with a previously unheard of demand for items off the very top shelf…………

    6. oh Bette are you fucking kidding me?..Don’t go anywhere!..STAY THERE!…Untilyou figure it out what Alice wants foryou to find out?..DON’T LEAVE!…man..It’s Tina for crying out loud!

    7. Bette is so funny, in a really sweet way. She cracks me up! She seems to be clueless about the concept of love at this point. So cute that she realizes that Tina “really really likes her”.

    8. i like the version of you story its so much fun than the movie.. i wonder if angie would ask Bette “do you like kids?” “you know how to make chocolate milk?” lol..please post soon.Thank you bi ^_^

    9. Hi Biissexi, This adventure is totaly hilarious. I just love how you have conveyed Bette’s bemusement and confusion. She is totally out of her delth with this relationship with Tina and with having a daugther. It looks like fun times are ahead as Bette deals with all these new challenges. I can’t wait so please post more soon. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    10. Trust Alice to have mixed too many weird herbs. Bette´s working at a hardware store!..and would actually know how to fix a door – I definitely need chapter 3 soon.
