    Fate – Chapter 4

Neither Tina nor Bette knew how long they talked for. What they knew was how easily the conversation flowed. They felt comfortable around each other and found one another interesting.

Tina couldn’t remember ever meeting anyone who showed this must interest in her. Bette asked question after question, eager to get to know her better. She was flattering, she was charming, she was funny and she actually listened when Tina spoke. In the short amount of time they spent talking, Tina could easily say that Bette knew more about her life than Eric did in the 6 months they’ve been together.

As Tina downed the last of her latest drink, Bette laughed.

"Whoa, easy there tiger. Don’t want you to get sick now"

Tina blushed and smiled at Bette, "I’m sorry, its just that I’m having such a good time"

Bette smiled and placed her hand on top of Tina’s as she spoke softly, "I’m having a good time too. I’m glad I came tonight"

Tina swallowed as she felt Bette’s thumb softly caress the top of her hand, "Same here. For a second I almost stayed home when my boyfriend-"

"Boyfriend?" Bette cut her off, her thumb stopped moving.

Tina looked down at their hands and sighed, "Yeah . . . Eric. He was against me coming here but I’m not sorry I did. I am sorry for deceiving you though. Bette, I didn’t mean . . . I should have . . ."

Bette held up her hand and shook her head as she tried to hide her disappointment, "Don’t be sorry. Its my fault. I shouldn’t have assumed and been so forward"

Tina couldn’t bring herself to look Bette in the eye as she stared down at her empty cup. She swirled her straw around the rim and mixed the ice around. Bette couldn’t help but notice just how much she was blushing.

    "I . . I didn’t think you were. Being forward I mean . . . t-to be honest I’m glad you did . . or else I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to talk to you"

Bette gently grasped Tina’s chin and slowly raised her head. As Tina slowly looked up and into her eyes, Bette flashed another of those smiles.
