Feeling safe and wanted again – Chapter 40

    Chapter Fourty

“I was angry at her, I can’t believe I got angry… I… I will never forgive myself if something happens.” Tina cries out.

    “What happened?” Maryann asks.

“She told me not to worry, and I just snapped. I’ve been so scared and I… She has to be okay.” Tina whispers out the last part.

“I’m sure she understood and I’m sure she’s not up there because of something you said.” Maryann says, trying to comfort Tina the best she can.

“I know, but the fact is that I… in a way meant what I said. I said I worried about her every day, and that I would continue to worry until she retires. It’s a dangerous job, but I know that she’s careful, I know that.” Tina says after calming down a little. “I can’t believe I said that to her, she just got out of a coma for God’s sake.” Tina says, starting to cry again.

“She’ll be okay Tina. And she knows that the job is dangerous. But she’s always been careful and she’s even considered quitting on several occasions. It’s a tough job, she knows that.”  Maryann says calmly. “She called me after she got the job in New York and told me that she would be off the streets, that she thought about you and Evan that she wanted to be there with you and for you for the rest of your life. And she knew that if she continued to be on the streets as she put it, that might not happen, so she was happy when she got the CSI job, that means that she will be working with the crime scenes after the crime has happened and also inside the lab, which would take a lot of the danger away from her daily life.” Maryann says.

“I’m a total ass, aren’t I?” Tina says wiping her eyes.

“No you’re not. You love her and are concerned.” Maryann says.

The nurse comes back. It’s been 30 minutes since they took Bette up to the OR.

“How is she?” Tina asks, standing up.

“She’s okay. She had a minor heart attack, or a blockage of an artery close to the heart. They missed that on the x-rays the other day. They put a stent in, so it will now flow freely. They don’t know the cause of it, but at least she okay, and will be okay. She also had a collapsed lung. That is also taken care of. This was only a minor setback, she’ll be fine. They’re bringing her down to the ICU again in a few hours. So there is nothing you can do for now, go get a bite to eat or go home to relax.

    1. Great update. Tina will have to censor her words when in the room with Bette. Although Bette says nothing because of what Tina said but Bette probably felt a little guilty anyway. Michael and MaryAnn should see Bette next, Bette needs to see all of them just or reassurance. Thanks for posting.

    2. Welcome back! Hadn’t realized how much I look forward to this story until you disappeared ;-(. I hate to say it, but Tina’s comments may have had a teensy-weensy bit of an impact on Bette’s heart attack – if her BP was raised and she suddenly felt stressed…(disclosure – not an MD :-))
