    Friends ch. 18

Lara and I woke early in the morning; we had to get to Burbank to her parent’s house. We found my parents sitting in the kitchen for breakfast, my father reading the newspaper and my mother reading one of her romance novels. We sat with them a bit, talked and scheduled a visit with Bex for tomorrow afternoon, after Lara and I went to look at houses. We had breakfast and I said my goodbyes and found Howie and said goodbye. I didn’t bother looking for Shelly; obviously my lifestyle choice was too much for her and Bronson. We left and were on our way to Burbank. I was in a better mood than yesterday; I had accepted the fact that my mother was terminally ill. Now, we both had to make up for lost time. I certainly wanted to cram as much of my mother’s life into mine as I possibly could. Lara knew what I was thinking and how I was feeling; she grabbed my hand and gave me a reassuring smile. Now, I just couldn’t wait to see what her family had in store for me.

“Baby are you ready,” Bette shouted from the living room.

“Yeah, I’m just getting Bex’s stuff into her bag, then I’m all set to go,” Tina replied, she brought her bag out and saw that Bette had made her tea, “aw, thanks babe.”

“You’re welcome,” she said kissing Tina, she picked Bex up, “are you ready to go to the zoo?”

“Yeah, to see all the animals,” Tina chimed in, and Bex smiled and shook her head yes.

“Ok let’s go,” Bette said and they walked out. They went to the Los Angeles County Zoo where they spent the day looking at all the animals. Bex’s favorite was the chimpanzees; she was making monkey noises all day. Bette and Tina felt so comfortable with Bex, so many people complimented their cute daughter all day that they stopped correcting people after a while. We’ll make perfect parents, Bette thought. They went on with their day, when a nice older woman came up to them.

    “What a beautiful little girl.”

“Well thank you, this is our niece Bex. Bexie poo, can you say hi,” Bette asked Bex and she shied away.
