Chapter 14
Tina had been charged with retrieving a few more drinks for their table. She was placing several cups onto a tray she had managed to scrounge up when she heard an unmistakable voice behind her.
"How are you enjoying the party?" Bette asked.
"It’s really fun," Tina said, smiling. "Thanks for the invitation. I have some indication where your reputation stems from now that I’ve seen you in action."
"I’m so sorry, listen, I…"
Tina turned to face her, and put one hand up to indicate that Bette should just stop.
"Bette. You don’t have to apologize," she said. "You’re free to pursue whomever you please."
"I wasn’t pursuing her – the opportunity presented itself but…you don’t even seem upset," Bette said.
Shouldn’t she be more upset?
"I’ve done far worse with a few shots of tequila in my system," Tina laughed. "And it hardly seems fair to cast a judgmental eye your way when I likely would have done the same thing."
"You would have?"
"Well…probably not with her."
"I guess what I am getting to is that…I like you. I only want to pursue you."
"Obviously, I like you back," Tina said. "I walked in on an awkward situation. But I think we made the best of it."
"Would it be too much to ask you to stay over?" Bette asked.
"No, I’m not going to stay over. Nothing’s going to happen between us tonight," Tina assured her. She indicated the crowds of women that surrounded them. "In fact, you might want to consider your other options, because tomorrow’s not looking good either."
"Are you backing away entirely because of my fuck up?" Bette asked. Enough time had passed that she was cursed with a sobriety that made her second guess every interaction she’d had with Tina since they met.
"First of all, you didn’t fuck up. I still need some time to…figure things out," Tina said. "But I can tell you, points in your favor for adjusting your course once I got here. You’ve been the picture of propriety. Don’t worry though – Shane and I won’t be staying much longer."

Interesting. I like this Tina but don’t know if I would have given Bette the go ahead like she didLoved it
ok, wading into the fray here. First, excellent story jks, thanks for that. That being said, usually when a woman says it is ok, go ahead, I won’t be mad, she means the exact opposite. so my advice – don’t do it Bette, it is a test and a trap that you will regret no matter what Tina seems to be saying.
Don’t do it, Bette. Clean up the yard and take a cold shower. GO TO BED ALONE.

Well, now Bette at least knows the terms that she has to work with. Everything must be looking different now that she knows that Tina is no longer with Eric, and I’d wager that the knowledge of that relationship’s demise may influence Bette’s actions, just as it did before Tina and Shane showed up to the party. Thanks for posting again so soon. :)

I am rather disappointed in both Bette and Tina’s attitute, but I think it’s because I was giving them too much credit for their maturity level and their readiness in exploring something real developing between them. Tina’s attitude towards sex is obviously just about physical gratification without emotional entanglements so her being with Eric for sex or Bette having flings just comes down to getting what they need from other people that they are not ready to get from each other. Bette is just about conquering so she can adjust her behavior based on what she’s trying to accomplish. I would really lose respect for Bette if she has sex with Krista, especially after Tina gave her permission! This is a test of her character and has nothing do with whether Tina would forgive it or not. There is a definite disconnect between the emotional and sexual intimacy felt by these two. They are well on their way to being friends with benefits, but as for anything with a future??? I hope to see that they will soon start respecting the physical intimacy of the relationship as much as the emotional one.

It’s obvious they are not really into each other – Bette didn’t care that much that Tina was sleeping with a man all this time, Tina didn’t feel a damn thing seeing Bette making out with another woman. No spark, no love, no nothing. Two cold fish, especially Tina. At this point I don’t really care if they get together or not in this story. I still hope for a hot sexy scene with Bette and Krista though, lol.
I hope she don’t do it……and I loved the short kiss great update please continue
I’m usually a silent reader, but I just wanted to say I am loving all this push and pull between these two, it’s gonna make it so worh it when they finally get together. I hope for Bette’s sake she doesn’t sleep with Krista and maybe Tina will go home and wake up from her haze and realize she just kissed Bette! Thanks for writing and I’m loving these daily posts. They make my day what can I say! Ha, that rhymed! lol

Sorry I couldn’t resist chiming in again. Perhaps Tina is planning a dalliance of her own with Shane as the stand-in … ‘just for tonight’. She said she didn’t expect fidelity from Bette when she wasn’t offering it. Considering she broke up with Eric that seems a strange comment. Did she consider what she had with Eric as cheating on Bette or was she cheating on Eric with Bette? or is she planning to sow her own wild oats now that she too is single? I’m just glad that Eric broke it off, because I could see Tina heading back to his bed to give him a workout after that party. Bette and Tina’s ‘first kiss’ and Tina’s first time kissing a woman was totally uneventful. I thought it was out of place, and obviously more for their audience than any passion for each other. Tina is experimenting with boundaries and Bette is a willing plaything. I’m sure Krista could care less so not sure what the big show was about.

How does Tina who has not had any type of relationship w/a woman, kiss Bette in a flirtatious, sexy manner but also says she needs to figure things out. She also has the big caveat of IF she’ll pursue Bette in a relationship. She’s got me dazed and confused. Maybe she is just teasing. After all, Bette is certainly attractive and they’ve hit it off really well on a friendship level. I am just enjoying the ride and the most excellent frequent postings.
Hmmm…did Tina really tell to sow her wild oats or is this a test…if she really wants to be with me, then she wouldn’t try to hook up with someone else. Swimmie, you are so confusing me with this post…so much so that I can’t even write my story and I had a crazy bath tub scene. Bette will change her mind the last minute, right? Right?
This Tina is so mature! I doubt that Bette will go after Krista, especially after the sample kiss. But that is yet to read! Thank you for writing and for the interaction.
I agree with gigi…dont do it bette…even if tina wouldn’t care, which she will regardless of what she says or feels at the moment, bette will regret it big time. Its not what she really wants and as helena so eloquently put it in season 2, “you wont be alone, bur you’ll still be lonely.”
Very interesting developments. It seems that they are not as interested in each other as I thought they were. Bette wants to hook up with a one night stand and Tina doesn’t care. I think Tina feels more comfortable with Bette as a friend at this point. If she had any romantic feelings toward her I think her reaction to seeing Bette pursuing someone else would have been more emotional. And I guess Bette is just used to having one night stands and Tina hasn’t made a strong enough impression on her to cause her to think any differently. I’m hoping they leave it as a good friendship. I think Tina is right, it isn’t worth risking their friendship for something that doesn’t appear to have the potential to last. I’m looking forward to seeing where you take them next….
Wow, fantastic number of readers, over 1700 that’s awesome. As for this chapter, I, frankly, don’t quite know what to think. Although I do think Bette would be an absolute idiot to have an intimate tryst with Krista or whatever her name is. I don’t believe for one minute that Tina was not affected by catching Bette with the girl. I think Tina cared very much I would not be surprised to find her back at Bettes house later in the evening looking for an article of clothing or something she supposedly left “by accident,” when she was there earlier. I also don’t think she would be adverse to having goodbye sex with eric if he approached her. She’s trying to let Bette think this is nothing more than a friendship at this point and in earlier chapters she has certainly led us to believe that she really feels something for Bette and truly wants to explore a relationship with Bette and really wants to be intimate with her. If Shane lives next door to Bette at this point, then Tina could just politely go next door and watch from the kitchen and see everything she wants or does not want to see transpire next door. What I would like to see her do is get her things from eric on sunday and have a clean break then go home and get some rest and clear her head of everything shes seen and done on this day. Give Bette the strength to leave Krista and anyone else alone. In fact at dusk she should end the pool party and make damned sure krista is gone permanently. Swimmie you most certainly have created a situation where this story could go either way. DRAMA. Thanks for posting.
Contrary to what some may think, I felt Tina was trying to be level headed by telling Bette to go ahead with Krista. Rationally, she really has no right to stop Bette. But who knows what she is really thinking? She could be green with envy inside. I hope she was actually because otherwise, she would seem rather inconsistent. Wasn’t she jealous over Ashley couple of chapters back? Anyway, so i read Tina as a confused but trying to be cool with things and to be fair to her friend. Bette on the other hand…well, I’m not sure how she would feel about herself if she sleeps with Krista. Strange how she could declare wanting only Tina and yet almost immediately after she looked at Krista some kind of desire. It’s not an issue about honesty. That’s bit of a bull. Kind of like saying I only love xxx yet I need instant gratification so let me go checkout someone else to just f(*&k while waiting for the love of my life to reciprocate. And when my love reciprocates, it will be making love and not f)&king so it’s all fine. What a swell deal for Bette…so is she going to do it?
Ah Swimmie, you are a magician! Your writing elicits so much comment from so many! Most excellent!! I don’t envy you with the push me pull me from your readers. I understand your writing style as it is similar to my own. You are a genius and I bow to you! Now to the story, not being honest and coming thru fear sure screws things up in relationships. If Tina wants to pursue other options, then she should tell Bette that with those words. If she doesn’t want Bette to have a fling, then she should say that. Humans are crazy! SHe should take Shane to bed and explore her options with her newfound sexuality. I agree with some of BAT2012’s comments in regards to respecting one another. Just be honest with what you want. No assumptions. No games. Oh, well, You are writing an amazing story and I look forward to more of your creative juices flowing. THANK YOU!
Tina showed up at Bette’s party after saying she wouldn’t attend and she hadn’t told Bette about the breakup with Eric so I think she said the right things under those circumstances. She’s feeling conflicted about losing Bette’s friendship and hasn’t committed to something more yet so she’s giving Bette the ok roam the pasture. How Tina feels emotionally about it might be another story. At the end of the night will Bette decide to spend some alone time with Krista and if so, how much give and take will transpire between them — I’m really curious to see which way you will go.
hmmm, interesting development. I wonder if Tina really is testing Bette because she wants to be sure Bette is serious in her want to pursuit only her. Or maybe Tina is not ready for a lesbian relationship and needs more time bus while she’s figuring it out there’s no way for Bette to wait around? Either way, i’ll be reading no matter how often you post

Love this story JKS. The diversity and passion of the comments is a testament to your storytelling skills. The issues are not black-and-white and you are doing a great job hashing out the gray. I also love the strength of your dialogue. Can’t wait for the next chapter.
Okay, playtime is over. I’m about to take the gloves off and get dirty. First of all, this is the place in the story where Tina can just go to hell. She’s starting to jerk Bette around. Bette put her cards on the table. She spoke her feelings and intentions honestly. Tina wants to be coy, withholding her affection in order bait and manipulate Bette. I believe that if she cared for Bette she would have had some reaction other than mirth. Jealousy, perhaps? Hurt? Surprise? I know they haven’t made a love commitment yet, but Tina has been spending a considerable amount of time with Bette. Her composed response to seeing Bette in a clutch with another woman, after Tina has broken up with her boyfriend was not consistent with someone with an open heart. I say, if you express a desire to want to love and be with a woman and her response is to tell you that you should explore your options, you’d best believe either she’s afraid of her feelings or she’s just really not that into you. At that point, you should just get your hat and step, bid her adieu with a handshake and a smile or an, “Eff you” if you want to totally burn that bridge. Speaking of burning, what happened to Tina’s Sunday appointment with Eric? If I were Eric, I’d throw her clothes out on the front lawn and let the dog rip them up! (someone told me they had neighbors who did that) Bottom line, nobody with skin in the game acts so coy unless she is a lieing by omission, passive-agressive, witholding, crazy-making, rhymes with witch! That’s been my observation and you can see it’s a bit warped. Bettes milage, however, may vary in this story. Tina might be better as a friend (did I actually just type that?) Still loving the story, even if it is inducing flashbacks. LOL! Thanks for posting so frequently. Conversely, Tina could just be exercising restraint and keeping her power instead of giving it away so early in the game. Flip a coin! Those crazy lovebirds! Whatever!

On that same note maybe Shane and Tina could hook up? They have that chemistry, they can share a meaningful night of intimacy and be friends. Tina should explore being with a woman physically before emotionally. And Shane is the perfect candidate. I think that part of Tina’s dilemma is that she really likes Bette and wants to please in every way. Lesbian sex is uncharted territory and what better navigator than Capt. Shane Sparrow of the WeHo seas. 🐠 you woke me up swimmie, I love it. You took something conventional to the B&T beginnings and turned it on its head. Unprecedented and very inspiring. Bravo ✌✊👏😉

How was it that Tina was jealous hearing Bette go clubbing and hooking up with Ashley and then seeing Bette doing a body shot and making out with Krista …not make her jealous? I think I need Tina’s thoughts on this one, Swimmie. I need to re-read it again.
Sure, if Tina really does want seek out drama, sleeping with Shane would be perfect. As would having break-up sex with Eric, should she still meet him on Sunday. Of course, the drama would have to be kickstarted by letting Bette know what she’d done… and despite the challenge/test she just threw down with their first kiss, I don’t think Tina’s up for those type of childish games. They’re not in high school.
Maybe Tina went to the party fully armed for every awkward potential scenario with Bette. She’d been warned about how raunchy these parties get and she didn’t think it was a joke. Bette’s reputation precedes her and I don’t think Tina expects much from Bette at this time. She hadn’t given her anything to hang on to yet anyway. I don’t think she’s thinking lifetime partnership this early either. She’s a straight woman contemplating the idea of an alternative lifestyle. She broke up with Eric to see where this potential new path led but nothing is really set in stone yet. I think she went to the party unannounced so she could see for herself what she might be in for. And how are we so sure that she wasn’t feeling a tad bit jealous there? Maybe she’d primed her rational self to take over, aware of what she might find there. I mean she was actually jealous with Jodi on the show but she even helped Bette win her back.

I think seeing Bette and Krista together when she first walked in bothered Tina much more than she led us to believe. I really hope Bette doesn’t do anything because right now Tina is really thinking friendship is safer than a relationship with Bette. Just my opinion!
Wow! It’s great how there are so many different opinions about what is happening in your story. A definate sign of great storytelling! I personally think that Tina is finally acting very honest and mature. Up until this point, she hasn’t exactly been honest about her sexual attraction to Bette (many secret masterbation sessions) and she also didn’t tell Bette when she broke up with Eric. I can understand that she needs time before taking that big step with Bette. Tina is really loving the friendship that she and Bette now share and she is afraid of losing that if they become intimate. Bette now knows that Tina is single and how much she values their friendship so I think she does need to allow Tina some adjustment time. I don’t think that by telling Bette to “enjoy” the rest of her evening means that Tina doesnt care. i think she just wants Bette to realize, and she told her as much, that if they become intimate she will not tolerate any “dalliances”. How Bette responds to this is yet to be seen. I would hope that Bette has more restraint but the fact is that right now both Bette and Tina are single. Now as far as the kiss goes…I am in agreement with others that a first kiss with a woman is a big thing. That being said I think that’s why Tina didn’t allow the kiss to be deepened. She stopped Bette when she realized what Bette was about to do. Technically I guess it was their first kiss, but I don’t think there were tongues involved. Can a kiss be earth shattering without tongues? Maybe, but tongues make a difference. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Still loving the story JKS. Great job!!!
