    Friendship Foundation Chapter 2

Bette leaned against the frame of Tina’s office door, but said nothing to announce her arrival. She crossed her arms and simply watched her for a few moments. Eventually, she stood up and knocked.
    "Lunch time," Bette said.
"Hey – come on in," Tina did a half spin in her chair and pushed back from her desk to come around to greet Bette.
They met almost awkwardly, in a half hug.
"Are you ready to go?" Bette asked.
"Let me finish this email," Tina said. "Then I’ll be ready. Have a seat."
She went back to her computer and focused on the letter she’d been in the midst of writing.
Bette glanced around the office, admiring the personal touches that clearly came from Tina.
The phone rang just as she was concluding her letter.
"Hey babe," Tina continued after the standard greeting. "I’m on my way out with Bette – we’re having lunch together, remember?….Of course, I will…Sounds great…me too. Bye."
"Eric says ‘hi’," Tina said. She pulled her purse out of the drawer of her desk and placed it over her shoulder. "All set."
They were able to walk to the restaurant from Tina’s office and were soon seated in a relatively private location. They talked casually while Bette perused the menu. Tina didn’t bother opening hers. Once Bette placed her menu on the table, their server approached.
"Hi Tina," he said. "First time this week; you must be busy. Can I get you the usual?"
"Yes, thanks Grant," Tina offered him her menu.
"What can I get you for lunch today?" He turned to face Bette as he asked the question.
"I’ll have the Cobb salad, no bacon, with dressing on the side," Bette said.
    He paused. "Really?"
Bette glanced from the server back to Tina and then nodded to him again, momentarily confused at the request for confirmation.
"Anything to drink besides water?" he asked.
"Green tea?" Bette said it as a question.
"Certainly," he replied. "I’ll be right back with your drinks."
    "What just happened?" Bette asked.
"I think you know," Tina replied.
    "Cobb salad is your usual?"

    1. I really am enjoying the unfolding of their friendship. It seems more realistic than Tina immediately kicking Eric to the curb and jumping Bette’s bones. Although who could blame her. I can understand Tina appreciating Bette’s sweet physique regardless of her “straightness”. Beauty is beauty and to be admired. Have a peaceful and fulfilling New Year.

    2. Awww Swimmie, you’re brilliant. Love this story. This is the first time that I’ve seen a story that explores and shows us how their friendship developed and they became lovers before S1. I had to go back and read the first chapter again before I realized what were reading. Love it to pieces. If it has been done before and I missed it, my apologies to the author. Thank you Swimmie. Happy New Year.

    3. Love the way you write, and the intelligent pacing of the story. You can feel the warmth developing nicely! Happy New Year, and hope everyone recovers soon.

    4. Great beginning of the re-telling of the beginning of B&T. Thanks and Happy New Year. I’m looking forward to that pool party. Maybe Shane will shock Tina!

    5. i really love your take on this story. i wish ilene showed us more of Tibette relationship that happened before season 1 started. thanks :)

    6. Another great posting of your amazing story. I love the pace that it’s unfolding. And, as the others say, it’s much more realistic and I like seeing their relationship move in this way towards good friendship.
