I Need My Best Friend – Part 15

    Chapter Fifteen

    Saturday Afternoon

‘Tina you’ve hardly said a word since we left The CAC.  Is everything all right?’

‘I’ve just been listening to you.  I had no idea you would enjoy this morning so much.’

‘The kids were great, I really enjoyed watching them, and they were so excited about everything.’

‘James told me you paid for the art kits, that was really nice Bette.’

‘It was fun to watch their faces as they unwrapped them.  So, are you going to tell me where we’re going?’

‘Remember the cabin we rented a few years back?’

‘Why would you think I’d back out of going there?  We had a great time.’

‘I don’t know.  Bette I’d really like to put everything aside for the next couple of days and just try to enjoy being together.  But before we do that I need to ask you something.’

‘You can ask me anything Tina.’

‘Are you keeping anything from me?’

‘No!  Tina I promise I’m not hiding anything from you.  Please, believe me.’

    ‘All right.’

    ‘Tina?’

‘It’s okay Bette I just needed to ask.’

The rest of the drive was very quiet, but this time the quiet was very obvious.

Bette spent the time trying to figure out what had happened that she had missed.  Tina was very different today and it was making Bette uncomfortable.

Tina was wondering why Bette didn’t tell her about the list from Peggy.  Why would she need to stay at one of Peggy’s places if she weren’t trying to get out of L.A.?  Well, she had told Bette she would take care of everything this weekend and now that was exactly what she planned to do.

Once they arrived at the cabin and had everything unloaded Tina had asked Bette to take a walk with her.  Bette thought surely she would find out what had happened to change Tina’s mood.  As soon as they left the cabin Tina was totally different.  She held hands with Bette as they walked along the lake until they reached a shaded area near the water.

‘Bette do you mind if we sit a while?’

    8. Hi, I just want to add that I enjoy every bit of the story and that it leave me very ‘drained’ as well coz I feel for both Bette n Tina – in fact, I cried in one of the chapters. Keep up the good work. You write beautifully – the one request I have – pls have a good ending – let Bette ‘alive’ again and Tina to ‘live’ – you know what I mean
