I Need My Best Friend – Part 6

    Chapter Six

Yesterday had definitely ended much better than it started.  They had kept both the movie and the conversation light.  They both realized just how long it had been since they really enjoyed just a simple evening together.

Tina had told Bette she would be going out of town Monday, for a seminar, and wouldn’t be back until late Thursday.  They had agreed to meet this afternoon and enjoy the garden after all their hard work.  They had also agreed that they could each pick one topic or question and that would be the discussion for the afternoon.  Nothing was off limits, but they did agree to try to keep their emotions in check and not to ask anything if they weren’t ready to hear the answer.

    Sunday

Bette had immediately known what she wanted to talk about.  She had been struggling all day trying to organize her thoughts without becoming obsessive with every little detail.  She didn’t want to come off as if this was a presentation for the board.  She had finally distilled what she wanted to say down to two statements and hoped that would get things started.  She wanted to stay calm, relaxed and most importantly sincere.  She expected that whatever Tina chose to talk about would definitely be difficult.  She was just about to hit panic mode for the tenth time when she heard the front door close.

    ‘Baby?  I’m here.’

Bette’s heart stopped for a moment and then she thought **don’t go there Porter, she doesn’t even realize what she said.**

    ‘I’m in the kitchen.’

    ‘You’re in the kitchen?’

‘I can at least make ice tea!’

They got settled and talked for a few minutes about how much nicer the garden looked than it had just a few days ago.  Tina told her Alice still wasn’t sure she believed Bette actually did any of the work.  Bette laughed and said she wouldn’t have believed it herself if she hadn’t been there.

It was quiet for a moment and Bette looked over at Tina and said, ‘Did you want to start?’

‘Would you mind going first?  I’m not sure yet.’

‘Of course.  Actually you gave me an opportunity to talk about this months ago and I ignored you.  I want to apologize for that and hope you’ll give me a ~do over~.’

    2. Hey..You’re Back!! I have been eagerly waiting for your new chapter and couldn’t help but smile when I saw you posted a new one today! I really love your story and the conversations that Bette&Tina are having are so realistic and beautiful..it will take a while to heal but I hope they will find each other in the end..and asalways, as long as you write ’em..I will faithfully read ’em..I’m already hooked!..do much appreciate you taking the time to share this with us..

    3. Hey, welcome back! Nice to read your stories again. It’s a good approach to explore. I love the conversations they have. It’s still dramatic but it’s not melodramatic. Still moving and the friendship they have shines through though can’t forget the fact that they’re not meant to be just friends. waiting for the next…

    4. This is more realistic to me than the stories that have B&T splitting up. Of all the people I have seen deal with infidelity in their marriage, it is the couples that truly love each other that try to make the relationship work. They go through all possibilities in order not to leave any ‘what ifs’ lurking out there. Of the ones that have taken the aforementioned route, all the marriages have survived. You are doing a fantastic job with this story. Keep up the great work. I like the honesty between these two.

    5. hey! nice to have you here again… Good one… Bette was so sweet with Tina seven years ago… and tina has forgiven bette… really good… what’s gonna be tina’s question? surprise surprise…

    6. This is great. It’s good how they are talking like mature woman and clearing the air instead of holding it in when they don’t know the facts.

    7. Great great great, like Bete said ‘Why couldn’t I have just talked to you instead of cheating on you?’ good question but if you didn’t we never got a chance to read this Story

    8. As Always this was a wonderful chapter. They seem to be moving closer to finding each other again. Please keep writing. I look forward to reading each new chapter.

    9. I’m so happy you didn’t chuck this story! It is so realistic…how I imagine 2 people who love each other find their way back. I am so enjoying this please go on…soon!

    10. Tina jumps to conclusions as quickly as Bette does. They are both so afraid of losing each other. Wonderful writing if u ever read these comments; I just wanted u to know.
