    What will Bette do?

    Chapter Eightteen

    Third person narration, right after Alice leaves the house

    It was dark outside, but Alice knew the neighbourhood well enough. She really wondered what was going on. She knew that Tina wasn’t confident of it and she doubted it the longer it lasted.

    She arrived at the little park where Bette had asked her to meet her. Bette was already there, looking anxious.

    “What’s going on, Bette?” Alice asked. Bette gestured for Alice to go sit next to her on the bench, but Alice just crossed her arms and waited for an answer.

    “Alice, I have to ask you a favour.”

    “I’m not sure, Bette. Tina is really worried about you. Why do you want to see me and not her? Have you got any idea what she’s going through right now?”

    “What about what I’m going through?” Bette snapped. She was on the verge of tears.

    “What the hell is going on here, Bette? You have a call from Fiona, you drop everything and go to her, you don’t answer your phone and now you’re here, looking so… like something isn’t right. Look, I don’t know what happened between you and Fiona, Tina wouldn’t tell me a thing. The only thing she wanted to spill was that she totally abused you. So don’t you run back to her.”

    “I have no choice, Alice. Fiona’s in trouble, I have to help her out. She needs me.”

    Alice almost exploded. “What about Tina? Tina needs you! And Amy, have you got any idea how much you influenced her for the better? How much it changed her life that you just went out there and told everyone how much you love Tina?”

    “Don’t do this to me, Alice, please. It’s hard for me, don’t make it any harder, okay? I just… I want you to do something for me. I mean, it’s just… I have no choice. I have to do this, I have to help Fiona. I can’t forget what she has done for me.”

    “What she has done for you? You mean, like totally abusing you and your feelings?”

    “I don’t know how much Tina has told you and for the moment, I don’t really care. There’s a reason I asked you to come, Alice, and not Shane or Amy or Dana.”

    2. Me? I wulda let Shane go knock the shit out of her and some brains into her. How stupid is she??? Actually right from the start she’s been a ‘stupid gyrl’; not liking her at all right now and if she doesn’t wake up, smell the coffee and run back to Tina then she deserves every bad thing that happens to her. I don’t trust that woman, She is not good for Bette, but what can you do or say when the person concerned is so blinded by love and or should I say lies, poor Tina I really feel for her, my heart is breaking, She honestly doesn’t deserve this, she deserve so much better. Thank you my friend for the up date, though it was a very hard chapter to read, I didn’t think I had it in me to read it and comment anyway because I already knew what’s coming, your words of assurance really helped but I can’t help but feel this sadness for their relationship to have to come to an end like this and for who, for Fiona. You are such a great writer and without your talent I wouldn’t be this much affected. With all my love and best

    7. Can’t believe that Bette is so gullable and niave, even when “blinded by love”. Fiona is a complete bitch for what I think she is about to do.

    8. Genner I love how you have moved the story forward. It seems that this was inevitable for Bette. She had to confront the ghosts of her past, particularly Fiona, if she was going to start a new life with Bette. I’m wondering how much abuse she will take from Fiona before she realizes that the darkness belongs soley to her ex… PPS

You better listen to that voice in your head and get off that bus and back on the one heading home…without Fiona! and then you better grovel until Tina even considers talking to you! PPS you seriously have to fix this!

    11. What a captivating story. While I can understand Bette’s pull to Fiona, it still makes me want to scream… I can only imagine into what kind of darkness Fiona is leading Bette.
