If it is meant to be…Chapter 17
The two women stood, holding each other, oblivious to the activity around them…totally lost in the feel of each other’s arms. It wasn’t a feeling of desperation, no holding on tight fearing it would disappear…it was a feeling of pure love…of coming home…of knowing your place in the world. And for these two women, that place was and is with the other.
Bette leaned back just enough to be able to see Tina’s eyes. She wanted to see the love that she now knew was still there. “Oh Tina…” She didn’t know what else to say at that moment, so lost was she in Tina’s eyes, that her mind went blank. She brought her hand up, and ever so gently glided her finger along Tina’s eyebrow, down her cheek…outlining her lips…one, then the other. “I love you…” The words were said just as she softly placed her lips over Tina’s…
Tina felt her knees buckle, felt her heart soar. She felt those incredible lips, felt all the love being passed to her through the intermingling of their breath. Bette released Tina’s lips, then leaned forward so their foreheads were resting together.
They stood that way in silence, allowing themselves to reacquaint their senses with each other. The love flowing between them, too much to stay within the boundaries of their arms, rippled out to all those around them, who couldn’t help but be caught up in the emotions of this reunion taking place in front of them, as they waited for their luggage. And as they watched, a hand clasped another just a little bit tighter…an arm stayed around a waist, instead of letting go…a loving smile was exchanged where irritation had just been a moment earlier. Love…

Tina and Bette were settled into Tina’s car, leaving the airport. “Ok Bette, what hotel are you staying at?”
“The Alexis. Do you know where that is?”
Tina looked at Bette and smiled. It was a perfect choice for Bette. The hotel was known for its art collection, that included both permanent and rotating exhibits, as well its wonderful restaurant, that was also a library. “Yea, I do. It’s right downtown. Perfect location…perfect choice for you.”
Bette smiled. “Great! I didn’t actually pick it. I let my travel agent make the arrangements. She knows me so well, because of all the traveling I do. Still, its nice to here from you that she made a good choice. I had her book a two bedroom suite, so that Milaine will have some space when she gets here.”
“When is Milaine coming?”
Bette looked over at Tina, smiling. “Well, I thought that you and I could have a week to ourselves first. She will be here for four days, and that gives us another three days alone before I have to head back.”
Tina reached over to hold Bette’s hand. “Bette, thanks for taking two weeks to be here with me. I know that is a lot of time for you to be away, especially when Milaine will be heading back to school soon.” She glanced over at Bette smiling, then looked back at the road. “I means a lot to me that you would be here for so long.”
Bette squeezed Tina’s hand. “Tina, you and I both know that there is no business more important than this reconnection, there is no art collection more important than this time we get to share with each other…and Milaine…because of you, we are going to get to enjoy a city she has never been to before. And it’s not like we don’t see each other when she is at school. She still lives with me, it’s just she’s a whole lot busier. Besides, you’re the one who is giving up spending time camping with your children to be with me. I should be thanking you for that.”
Tina felt such a warm glow listening to Bette talk. As the years had gone by, she had forgotten how much she loved just talking with this woman. “I’m not giving up my camping with the kids. I’m going up after you leave to spend three or four days with them. I don’t want to spend any more than that, because this really is Dan and Kathy’s time with them.” Tina let go of Bette’s hand in order to lay it back on the steering wheel. “So we can both enjoy this time guilt free, right?
Bette understood what Tina was saying, and she nodded her head and smiled. “Right.” But, deep down she could feel a twinge of guilt, and like she’d been doing the last several days, she buried it even further.
They arrived at the hotel and checked Bette in. The room was beautiful, and Bette looked forward to wandering through the hotel, knowing by how the room was decorated, that she would also enjoy the artwork displayed throughout the building.
The room…now that they were here…alone, Bette was feeling a little bit nervous. It had been so long since she had been in a hotel room with Tina. In the past, they would have already been out of their clothes, checking out the “functionalism” of the bed, but now…
Tina had been watching Bette, sensing a bit of nerves. She smiled, noticing that Bette still bit her lip when she was unsure of herself. She couldn’t help but think that she was watching such a contradiction. Bette had been totally comfortable holding her and kissing her in the middle of the baggage claim area of Sea-Tac Airport, but here they were, alone in a hotel room, and Bette could barely look at her. Tina was totally enamored with those contradictions. This was the Bette Porter she had fallen in love with so many years ago. “Baby, why don’t you change and we can go get a salad or something. I know your stomach is on east coast time, so I figured we have an earlier dinner. What do you think? Are you hungry?”
Bette let out a breath she hadn’t realized she been holding. “Yes, a little bit. A salad would be perfect and it will hold me over til later.” She smiled at Tina and moved into the bedroom to change.
She came out of the bedroom several minutes later to see Tina relaxing on the couch, reading about the hotel amenities. ‘God, she is so beautiful.’ Bette truly believed that at 45, Tina was even more beautiful than she had been at 22. She had grown into her beauty…into herself, which made her even more beautiful…more desirable.
Tina stood up, smiling at Bette. “Are you ready?”

re-reading, still a beautiful tale.
i’m ready… please… love, careness, sweetness, kindness, love, love love… and sex of course… please… we are ready to this reconection…
i find it quite interesting how tina lived “out and proud” at one time only now to be confronted with “coming out” all over again.
plus, it’s a TiBette angst-free zone. sigh.
The airport scene was so beautiful and touching!
I stand corrected 15 years ago. It seems like everyone is wondering?
Thanks for another post. I always look forward to reading your additions.
So, was Bette burying the guilt or was Tina? Bette was doing the processing in the car, but what guilt could she have after what we read in previous chapters? Tina, on the other hand, is afraid to open up to her kids just yet regarding her past/present relationship with her true love; is Bette taking on Tina’s guilt or does she have her own? Is B still holding on to how the relationship ended by perfidiousness, when T explicitly told her to let that go?
Just wondering.
I’m not sure why Bette is feeling guilty…is it from 15 years before or is she having second thoughts…they’re still in love, if not more than the first time…love this story so much Sea…please continue as soon and as often as you can…bravo…10!
The more I read the more I love it. Your words are perfect!
I love them flirting! I think it’s both sweet and sad in a way. It is interesting to think of Tina having to come out again but then do we ever fully come out? There’s alway’s someone to tell. Great Job Seahurst. I look foward to her conversation with her children.
It was so nice how they greeted each other and Bette telling Tina she loved her in person. But my question to you is “What twinge of quilt Bette has felt”? Is it for what happened 22 years ago and all this time has passed them by. We will have to wait. I trust you with our two girls. Excellent chapter, it was so nice to have gotten 2 chapters this weekend. Catch the next one. Thanks.
You’re teasing me with the kiss, aren’t you? What kind of guilt could Bette possibly be feeling right now, hmmm?
Yay! A new chapter! Lovely, as always! But, what is this buried guilt that Bette’s carrying aroung? Is it for Nica? Or because of what happened to them 15 years ago? As always, looking forward to more! Thanks so very much for sharing this wonderful fic with us!
Excellent! The way you are telling this story is beautiful. Let them rediscover each other slowly….Great Job!!!!
I am in love with this story, and I am with all the others What twinge of guilt? Is it for her infidelity 15 years ago and she is thinking that if she didn’t they wouldn’t be there at this moment? I liked the greeting at the airport, it was so heartfelt. Now if we get rid of this guilt we all can feel better about them. Because it is going to be rough for Tina to tell Dan and Kathy about her past history and her and Bette now. Can’t wait for the next chapter.
The meeting at the airport was beautiful.I know that Tina is going to have a hard time coming out to her children. The ex is the one I have a problen with. All these years.he was fighting a ghost of alost love with a woman.Great job. Thanks
Excellent Seahurst. I really love this story. I like everyone else am wondering what the twinge of guilt is.
beautiful. waiting impatiently for more. thanks!
Bette nervous and guilty…interesting. Loved the reunion in the airport.
Great chapter. Bette’s nervousness is cute. Hopefully she’ll warm up. We’re under your command and we’ll be awaiting your next post.
Gosh, I love this story.
This looks like it will be difficult for Tina and Bette at some point.
They’re adorable now… Bette is actually really cute when she’s nervous and all.. great job. Looks like you’ve got quite some readers.
I soooo like this story, Seahurst! I know Bette and Tina are in good hands…You definitely rock!
love this story…hope they both get over their nerves and start to really reconnect soon. can’t wait for the next chapter!!
Can’t believe I spent all morning trying to get out of SeaTac. Should have just waited for B&T. Great job on this story, Seahurst. I kept trying to find an internet site during my vacation out to the northwest.
I absolutely love this story – you are such a great story teller and I cannot wait for the next chapter. Please hurry!!!!! What is Bette guilty about and when do we find out about the necklace that Shane gave Tina?
The reunion at the airport was so beautiful! I too am wondering what Bette’s guilty about… I’m so excited to be a part of this journey of them reconnecting with each other. You’re awesome, Sea! I love this story!!!
