If it is meant to be…Chapter 45
Tina stood up, then knelt down on one knee in front of Bette. “We always wanted to have a family, you and I. We didn’t get that chance the first time, but now…it may not be like we had planned, having a child together, but Baby, we can still have that family.”
Tina stayed on her knee, earnestly looking into the eyes of her partner, her lover, holding onto both her hands. Her heart was pounding in her chest, each breath was fast and shallow. She knelt there…waiting, praying that she and Bette both wanted the same thing for their future.
Bette shut her eyes, gathering her thoughts. “Oh Baby…thank you.” Bette leaned forward and rested her forehead on Tina’s, squeezing her hands. She was touched by Tina’s gesture of getting down on her knee before her. She was also incredibly honored that Tina wanted her to be a parent to her children. Sitting back up, Bette couldn’t help the smile that was adorning her entire face.
“Tina, I am so proud that you want me to share your children’s lives, that you want them to be influenced by me.” Shaking her head, her smile shrunk a little. “The changes I will need to make in my life, are important to me, and even though I will need some time to work through them, and in some cases find alternatives, the idea that I will be living with you, helping raise your children is an opportunity that is incomparable.”
She leaned down again, this time lifting Tina’s chin, and after gently wiping away the lone tear making it’s way down Tina’s cheek…she kissed her. “I want us to not only be a family, but a family all living under the same roof. I want that very much Tina. I want you to be the person that I sit across from at the breakfast table every morning. I want you to be the one I am waiting for to finish up in the bathroom, so I can have my turn.” Bette chuckled. “We will have our own bathroom Tina, just know that!”
Bette gently pulled on Tina’s hands. “Come up here next to me.” Tina lifted herself up and sat next to her on the bench, her eyes never leaving Bette’s. “Tina, I want you to be the one at my side when Milaine is walking down the aisle at her wedding. I want you to be the one to drag me through the aisles at the grocery store…” Taking a deep breath, she looked directly into Tina’s eyes, and hoped that Tina could see the love in them. Tina, I just want you to be the one…”
“Oh Bette!” Tina wrapped her arms around her life partner, overwhelmed by her joy, by the love she felt from Bette. “We will figure everything out. And Baby, I know you need time. I understand now how important your life in New York is to you. I guess I just needed to know that you wanted the same things for our future that I do. I mean, I can handle us living in different cities for now, but at some point…” She reached her hand up and laid it on Bette’s cheek, gently rubbing her thumb across Bette’s lower lip. “I want you at my breakfast table every morning, eating with me, and with our family.”
Bette opened her mouth wide enough to lightly capture Tina’s thumb with her teeth, and then let it go, but only after tasting her lover’s skin with her tongue, and closing her mouth around it for just a moment. “Well, it looks like we both want the same things. Now all we have to figure out is the time line and…” Bette raised her eyebrows and gave Tina a crooked smile. “I don’t suppose there is any way you would reconsider moving everyone to New York?”
Tina started to say something, but Bette cut her off. “I know T…that was just wishful thinking. I know that Dan is here, and the kids deserve to be close to their father, and he to them. I want to be with you more than anything, so I will move…just let me whine about it for a while, and don’t get upset if I shed a tear or two over it either, Ok?”
Tina laughed out of happiness, but also out of relief. “Yes Baby, you can whine about it, but only until you actually move here. Once your in my bed…no more.”
“YOUR bed? Hmph…I see we have some things to talk about still. The first being…well, it would probably help if at some point you let the rest of your family in on the new addition.”
“I will. I plan on talking to them when I go up to where they are camping. That way if there is a lot of screaming and yelling, we won’t disturb the neighbors.”
Bette looked at Tina with concern, furrowing her eyebrows. “Do you really think they will start screaming? Tina, maybe you should wait until I can be with you.”
Tina couldn’t help but giggle. She loved how Bette always seem to want to come to her rescue these days. “Baby, I’m just joking. There won’t be any screaming. There might be some confusion, they will probably have lots of questions…and I am sure that Dan might feel a little hurt that I didn’t tell him about you specifically before, but there will be no yelling, I’m sure of that. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine…the kids…well, they may need some time, but they love me and I believe that they trust me. Besides, Dani is already your biggest fan, so I’m not worried about her.”
Bette smiled at that, thinking about the connection she felt with Tina’s oldest daughter. “What about Paul and Alex? It’s one thing to like a friend of your Mother’s, it’s another to have that friend sharing a bedroom and bed with her.”
Tina stood up, pulling Bette up with her. “Come on, let’s start walking again. It will be Ok Baby. The kids will love you.” Tina squeezed Bette’s hand and whispered in her ear. “They will…I’ve yet to meet a person who didn’t fall for you on the spot, and my kids were no different. Don’t worry.”
“I’ll try not to T…but just in case, I am totally prepared to bring in the big guns.”
Tina laughed. “The big guns?”
“Yea…if I have to, I’ll call Kit! Once she starts playing her music, singing and dancing around, showing them pictures of her and all her famous friends…she’ll have them eating out of her hands. Then, when they find out she’s my sister…hey, I’m cool just by association! See…the big guns.”
As the two women shared a laugh and continued their walk around the lake, they both knew that there were a lot of unknowns in their immediate future, but at least they were now sure of one thing…each other…and the fact that they were both willing to work through whatever was put in front of them, in order to live the life they dreamed of, together.
“Baby?”
“Yea T.”
“I promise you that I will do everything in my power to make you happy, so you won’t ever regret having to leave New York, for me.”
“No regrets T…just be with me, always.”

this is the best way of starting my day… lol
post more soon,… I wanted to know what are the reactions to tina’s confessions…
Lovely… k.. I can’t wait to see how the rest of Tina’s family is going to take it. Great job. Luved it.
Thanks for making my night yet again – you keep me so happy, Seahurst!
CONGRATS Storm and MVP Betty Lennox!!
Aw, that was a sweet chapter…big sigh. Thanks, Sea.
I’m equally curious as tinawho, why does Bette have to make the sacrifice and uproot her life to move to Seattle? As gorgeous as it is here, and no it doesn’t rain 9 months out of the year, techgal, though it is overcast for most of that time (i’ll admit), there isn’t much of an art scene in comparison to NYC and Chicago. Truth be told, I don’t think it’s fair for Bette to be the one to make the sacrifice… Where’s Tina’s concessions or contributions, besides professing her undying love? Why can’t they all move down to LA an dbe back with the framily?
As for the WNBA Champion, the Storm, it was awesome being at the game. The crowd was so raucus and crazy excited. Betty totally deserved the MVP as she was the primary clean-up girl, and thank goodness, in the second half. I still love LJ and Sue, but Betty rocked the house! Yeah, Seattle!!!
I didn’t want to say it before you wrote it in fear of jinxing it. But I knew you wouldn’t have Bette break Tina’s heart again. Also Bette just fell in loved with the kids the first time she met each. Excellent chapter. Seahurst It is actually raining here tonight. For we haven’t had rain for almost 6 weeks in this great state of OH. So now I”ll just let the the rain lull me to sleep. Catch the next one. Thanks!.
Bette is still willing to do anything for Tina. That is so lovely to see. Your writing is most inspiring
The WNBA was on the same time YANKEE WAS PLAYING THE rEDS SO i WAS CHANNEL surping. Again Maybe Dans company will move him to NY.Let the God of love smile down on those two.
so glad i was up late to read before going to bed. Sea you always deliver a great chapter…..this one is no different GREAT! keep writing and post again soon. thanks
WOW,no matter how much time goes by their amazing love for each other jusy shines though. This story jusy burstes with their love .
I’m totally amazed with your story.I can’t wait till your next chapter!
Thanks for another great chapter. I do think Bette is doing the right thing moving to Seattle. I don’t think the kids should have to be deprived of seeing their father on a regular basis like they do now. There will be enough of a change in their life without having to move 3000 miles away from their father. Now if Dan wants to move to NY also then great. I am also anxiously awaiting his reaction.
I can peacefully go to sleep now — great chapter — glad you have these two finally have their priorities straight — time to share the rest of their lives — thanks
First of all, there are TWO fools who let Tina Kennard go (Bette the first time, and Dan). Okay.
Bette, get a lightbox to counteract the SAD you’ll acquire from nine months of rain and gloom in Seattle. Purge all suede garments and buy some practical boots. Tina is asking a lot. And do you think Dan is going to take to another woman raising his children. Oh yeah, this is Seattle – they’ll all get together over coffee. Thanks Seahurst!
Awww….
Bring on the family!!! I can’t wait for that conversation. Congrats to the Seattle Storm and Betty Lennox. Although I’m partial to LJ, Betty did deserve it. Keep it up Seahurst, I’m hanging on by a thread with this story.
Sea…what an incredible love story. Between you and sparta I can’t concentrate at work! Keep up your great literary work of art!
I tried to stay up late last night hoping you would post but to no avail…
What a treat to wake up to. Can’t wait to see how Dan and the family treats this news. Hope the Porter Charm is in full force because I can’t see how this is going to be a smooth transition. Thanks for keeping us on the edge of our seats.
So good to wake up to. These stories are such a great antidote to the news of the day. Thanks for all you do.
Lovely as usual. This story is so inspirational.
Hey sea…another excellent one…can you consider having Tina and the kids move to NY…maybe Dan will move there…bette has gone through so much and maybe tina needs to sacrifice a bit…I know it is tough with kids…but maybe NY…maybe?
Um, Sea? Have I thrown myself at your feet and professed my everlasting love for you yet? If I had, I’d be willing to repeat my performance for you this morning. If people at my job ask why my laptop is on the floor and I’m lying next to it, I’ll just point to the screen and have them read this story.
They’ll be throwing themselves at your feet in no time. :) This story makes me happier than nobody’s business. You are awesome. Or whatever word is 100 times better than that. I’m still grinning and can’t process my synonyms properly. :P
Such a sweet story. Can’t wait for more.
My heart just melts when I read this story. It just gets better and better.
Sea? Still love you and this story. In case you were wondering. If I read this thing one more time, I’ll be able to recite it when I’m 90. :)
Bette is leaving her life in New York to be with Tina. There is nothing Bette wouldn’t do for hre. It must be true love.
Thought of you last night watching that great game. Keep writing…and like Techie San says, practical boots!
While I’m happy for your Seattle Storm I can’t help but be a bit sad for my NY Liberty. Ugh! Another great chapter Seahurst. I can’t wait to see how Dan and the kids react.
as is always the case, very nice chapter. can’t wait to see what the reaction is from the family. BTW, Techgal, i laughed my ass off at your comment!
Aww how sweet!! I fall deeper and deeper in love with Bette with every chapter.
