    Chapter 2

    ***Tina***

I followed her to a children’s home not too far out of town. She played particular attention to one child, a little girl. She could be about eight no older than ten, her skin and face similar to hers. I made a mental note to revisit the home for more information on the girl. I watched as they ate lunch together. She was so happy. I took some shots of them together, while they ate, while they played and a few as they said goodbye. She drove back to the gallery unawares that as of today everything she did was being documented.

I parked a few cars away. Through my lens I saw he wipe her eyes. I zoom in for a better look and saw her face was glistening, perhaps from tears I can’t say for sure. She got out and entered the gallery. It would have been too suspicious even for her if I were to enter the gallery again so I opted to stay in the car till she left for the day. Like clock work she left at five. She did go home unlike what her husband told Alice. She didn’t stay long though, fifteen maybe twenty minutes at the most, long enough to change into a track pants, t-shirt and flip-flops. She drove to the beach, a remote very quiet part of the beach. She poured a glass of wine and drank it in seconds. The second one she took her time. She watched as the sun set. The rays of the sun on her hair as beautiful as the rays as they danced on the still ocean. I zoom in several times to capture everything about her. Her eyes as she cried, her lips as she sipped the wine so intricately, her cheeks as they grew slightly red form the evening sun. I must secretly admit now that when we shook hands it was the first time in years I felt my heart beat and the photographic documentation I started if for somewhat selfish, personal reasons in addition to professional of course.

Just as the sun disappeared beyond the horizon she stood up and stripped herself of all her clothes. I stopped taking pictures at that point. I couldn’t disrespect her like that. My gut feeling too was to make sure that she got out of the water safely. She did have a lot to drink, almost an entire bottle. She walked in till the water reached her waist. As one of the wave came in she stooped down till the water covered her head. She did that three times as though she were performing some cleansing ritual. She then got out, got dressed, picked up the bottle and glass and headed for home or so I thought. She made one stop to a music store, and another to Blockbuster, and then she went home.

    1. very interesting new story. My thoughts; not a niece, the orphanage thinks she is a niece, but Bette’s own child that she had at some point before marrying this idiot or early in the marriage while he was gone or something and she could not tell him nor could she bring the child to her home. PPS

    2. Ok, so Bette need to get rid of the husband, before he can do any damage to her. She’s so sad except for her time with her ‘niece’. I’m curious to see what happens next, so keep it coming. PPS.

    3. Hate that Tina and Bette are meeting under this dark cloud. Bette needs to hire someone to watch her husband. Maybe she will have no guilt or lose her money. thanks

    4. it would be interesting to hear Bette starting the convo over coffee with “so Tina tell me, how much is my husband paying you for following me?”

    5. I’m with superdaddy – Bette’s goin call Tina out for sure. Great second chapter – like the objective tone that holds all the emotion underwraps but you know it’s there – very film noirish.
