It’s just lunch…2
Eric rose from his seat at the table as Tina approached. He walked around to her side and pulled the chair out for her.
Once they were seated and the small talk of greeting each other had been taken care of, Eric got to the point.
“So, when you asked to meet me, it sounded serious,” he began. “Something that couldn’t wait?”
Tina shifted in her chair, trying to find a comfortable position.
“I don’t know that I’d call it serious,” Tina began. “But it’s something we’ve been talking about lately.”
“You mean breaking up,” Eric said resignedly. “I know we’ve talked about it, but especially after last night…we had a good time together.”
“But then you walked me to my door, kissed me on the cheek and went home,” Tina pointed out.
“I knew we both had early mornings…” Eric began explaining.
“No, the thing is…I didn’t want you to stay,” Tina interrupted. “And we’ve talked about letting this drag out until we hate each other and I don’t want that either.”
The server picked that most inopportune time to make an appearance, but sensing the tension at the table, merely filled their water glasses and spoke a single sentence.
“I’ll let you two wave me over when you’re ready to order,” he said quietly.
Tina nodded and smiled politely at him.
“We’ve gotten to the point where we’re more like friends than two people who are dating,” Tina concluded.
“I know you’re right,” Eric sighed. “But you are a good friend and I don’t want to lose that. We haven’t had that spark for a while, and I’m not sure why, but I accepted it a long time ago.”
“Neither one of us should accept anything less than passion in our personal relationships,” Tina said. “Friendship is great, but there has to be that something more. That certain je ne sais quoi that some people give up looking for.”
“The which?” Eric asked, wondering just what their relationship had been missing.
“It’s not important,” Tina said. “What is important is that we can end this amicably. We can see each other at work, or at social functions and catch up and be genuine. Not be constantly looking over each other’s shoulder for something better.”
Eric nodded.
“So we’re okay?” Tina asked, reaching to place her hand over his on the tabletop.
“Yeah, of course we are,” Eric replied with a smile. “I’ve never been dumped with such poise before.”
“We’ll call this a mutual decision,” Tina grinned. “I just nudged it in the inevitable direction.”
“I hate to sound like I’m completely unaffected, but can we order lunch?” Eric asked, glancing over at their waiter. “I’m famished.”
“Sure,” Tina waved the server over.
They enjoyed their lunch together, but were both aware of the emptiness of the promise that they could remain friends.

Okie dokie…you have peeked interest! PPS
well now that is settled let the fun begin, lol :)PPS
first off i 2nd the request for the dvd extras…i was rewatching 506 the other day & thinking something along those lines ;) like that tina & eric were able to end things amicably…thx for this, now onto b&t’s lunch date!
Yay, now with Eric out of the way.. But really, I liked the way they ended it. Its mature, rational, and exactly how you break-up with someone when the feelings are warm but not passionate. Can’t wait for the next one.
A DVD like that would be great. The break up when well. Now Kennard is free and can go after Bette, she wouldnt have to work hard at it. thanks
if i had the energy, id be jumping up and down cuz you graced us with you writing. since i cant jump, just know you helped a positively shitty day be better. i loved that interaction. love the use of the words you chose. thx for the time.
Okay thats done now on to the good stuff
“Friendship is great, but there has to be that something more. That certain je ne sais quoi that some people give up looking for.””The which?” Eric asked.loved that. kind of sums it up perfectly. the which? huh? :)
Bring on the je ne sais quoi
JKS, I like the way that you ended it with Eric. Just because she’s falling for Bette, doesn’t mean Eric is a bad person. Most fan fics make him out to be, so yours was refreshingly different. I love your stories…can’t wait for more!
Hey Swimmie! Loved this chapter and I completely agree with Toby4ever, that just because Eric doesn’t have the right parts, doesn’t mean that he is a bad guy. Kudo’s to Tina for ending things and not just stringing him along, or even Bette for that matter. She saw what she wanted, went with her feelings, and that’s awesome. I’m glad you didn’t draw it out, or have her struggling to stay with Eric or go to Bette. I really loved this part here…. “Neither one of us should accept anything less than passion in our personal relationships,” Tina said. “Friendship is great, but there has to be that something more. That certain je ne sais quoi that some people give up looking for.” It says a lot! Thanks and looking forward to more!
So glad that you have started a new story…then again I’ve always liked all your stories (especially B&T ones). Thank you for the update.
as usual beautifully scripted. Thank U. PPS.
Agree, agree with the DVD’s. Any dirty talk from the two of them is HOT!
I love the way they ended things, but I am sad that they couldn’t remain friends. How is it that lesbians are able to remain friends with ex’s, yet it seems impossible in the straight world…just an observation. PPS and longer would be nicer, but I’ll take anything!!!
another lovely installment. look forward to more when you can.
Hey, JKS! This introduction was great! We loved the way you described the scenes and the dialogue was very richful and englightening of the situation between Eric and Tina. More! PPS – Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties from Mexico City)
Alright, eric is out of the way and now let see B&T lunch coming. Please post more, thanks!
hmm…now that is an interesting twist. I look forward to seeing what you bring us.
Good thing Eric’s a soulless lawyer. Now, on to TiBette sex!
Well check break up off the to-do list and on to other things. I like this story. Thanks for posting.
Now, why aren’t all breakeups that easy ?!! Why ? !! LOL !! No, but seriously, what a smooth operator Tina is ! She amazes me. Anyway, did I mention that I loved this fic ? Well, I do. Your writing is as elegant as it is delicious… Of course, I don’t think I would have risked indigestion with a chapter a little longer… ( looking up whistling ). LOL !
too short but at least tina is free for another lunch…agree on the extras for dvd
