Bette pitched in on cleanup. After the load of laundry got started, the two women found themselves seated on the couch.
“T, you look wiped.”
“That bad, huh?”
Bette softened her tone. “Not bad. Tired.” She patted her thighs. “C’mon.”
Too tired to put up resistance, and not sure why she should, Tina took Bette up on the offer. She stretched out, using Bette’s legs for a pillow.
“You could have called me, you know.” Bette said softly.
“It was a long day. I thought everything was under control. Then I ran out of pedialyte. I didn’t have Gatorade. I put in a few calls to the doctor, but they kept reassuring me that things were okay.” Tina let out a long breath. “Whenever she collapsed, I guess, for the most part, I did, too.”
Bette nodded in understanding, and the two women remained in silence for several minutes.
But as she lay there with Bette stroking her hair, one question kept running through Tina’s mind. “Why?” She asked, finally.
“Hmm?”
“Why the return this morning?”
“I thought you liked our time this morning,” Bette countered, giving a playful grin.
“I did, Bette.” Tina reached out and grabbed Bette’s free hand, taking hold of it with both of hers. “But you had spent several days before ignoring me.”
“I…”
“Bette.” The tone of Tina’s voice made it clear that she wasn’t going to accept anything but the absolute truth.
“You scared me.”
Bette paused, but Tina said nothing. She still held on to Bette’s hand, stroking the long fingers.
“It took me a day or so to realize that you were right.”
To this, Tina raised an eyebrow.
“I do want a family, with you. But I guess I hadn’t thought that far ahead. Thinking that far ahead, again, well, it brought back a lot.”
“But you returned.”
“Yeah. And I, uh, did something else.”
There was enough trepidation in Bette’s tone to make Tina slightly concerned. “Babe?”
“A couple things, actually.” Then, off Tina’s look, “Good things.”
This made Tina relax.
“I think,” Bette tacked on.

Thanks for taking time out of your hectic life to hit us with another chapter. Aww, I’m happy Bette did something sweet. Nice to hear that Tina has a family. Good stuff. I’ll be patiently waiting for the next one.

OK, since you’re teasing us again, I think one of the things Bette did was retrieve Tina’s commitment ring from whatever safekeeping it had been consigned to. Tarnation, ma’am, that Bette sure is old fashioned to ask Tina’s pa and ma about courtin’ her! Mighty decent of her, though. Anyway, may your indefinite busy period be short.

But I do believe that Bette has a point to make because Tina did not call. I understand why Tina did not…but Bette is right to be upset that she did not…Hope your busy life slows down a tad so you can share another post soon!
I love the direction that this story is taking. They both seem to be working towards finding the life that they both dreamed about. It took a lot of gumption on Bette’s part to call Tina’s parents. Thank you for introducing Tina’s parents to us. Even if we never get to know them we at least know that they do know about Angelica.
Okay, I guess will wait to find out what the other thing is that Bette did. How sweet of Bette, she called Tina’s parents.

Hi Pseud, Great to have another fine post from you. I love the intimacy of this scene. The shock of Bette’s confessions was marvelous and demonstrated to Tina the seriousness of Bette’s quest to reclaim her life, love and family. Tina’s Dad’s initial statement had me LOL. So typical of a father’s protective nature then his reluctant reply that Bette should court Tina (how quaint). I love the innocent and emotional impacy of this scene. It instantly shows the beginning of their romance again. This is a wondrous time. One that I will lie back and enjoy. Thank you so much for bring this joy to me. Your Loyal Fan.
