    Let it Ride- Chapter 14

    Chapter 14-

Irwin Fairbanks scratched his bald head thoughtfully as he dragged his finger down the left hand column of his spreadsheet. The phone on his desk rang once and he reached for it without taking his gaze away from the finances he was reviewing.

Clearing his throat, he said unconcernedly, "Irwin Fairbanks."

He sighed as he recognized his wife on the other end of the line, saying, "Irwin, I’ve just called her room again with no answer."

The financial advisor shifted the phone to his other hand and reluctantly leaned back in his chair, away from his report.

"Sweetheart, I’m sure she’s in class right now." Stretching his arm and shaking the sleeve a little until it revealed his watch, he noticed the hands with satisfaction before continuing, "I’m sure that’s all, Sharon."

He smiled vaguely as he realized his wife was scowling on the other end of the line. He didn’t now how he knew, but over twenty years of marriage had made Irwin intimitely familiar with his wife’s facial expressions.

She paused a moment before replying, "Yes. Maybe right now. But what about last night, Irwin?"

The pointed question caused Irwin to sit up a little straighter at the implication. He didn’t particularly enjoy the idea that his daughter wasn’t spending nights in her room but she was eighteen. Still, he had paid for the room.

He said in a muted tone as much to convince himself as Sharon, "Darling, I’m sure she’s just staying overnight at a friend’s. Maybe a late night of studying. You remember how that was, don’t you?"

Sharon smiled slightly, remembering her own college days with fondness before agreeing tentatively, "Yes, I suppose. But Irwin, I spoke to her tennis coach and he told me that she left the tournament early on her own."

Irwin was surprised to hear that information and said quickly, "She left? What about her matches?"

Sharon huffed impatiently, gathering speed again, as she said, "She finished. Won the tournament, actually. Don’t you find it odd that she never even called us?"

Irwin was trying to remain impassive and said, "It was only two days ago. She’s probably just been busy with school. I seem to remember a certain young lady who was lucky if she remembered to call home every few weeks."

    1. Frip you are sure posting fast what your drinking Reed Bull or what??LOL Anyway, Is ee that B&H had thier first fight, to say the least they are competitive and n so manyways that’s great but at the same time it’s not, we shall see what happens next with htem. As for AL and Dane they are perfect for one another…great last two chpaters frip.

    2. aww, your version of Harrison is adorable! I still heart this, although you won’t disclose who Studly Al made out with so long ago. This gets better with every chapter, so keep it up! But take a break every now and then, sheesh. I feel like it’s taking me years between posts and here you are, one or more a day.

    3. They’re are SOOOO CUTE!!!!! I love how Dana wants to rethink the no sex policy. Who could resist the sex wtih A? Or with D? lol Bette and Helena had their first fight eh??? Mmmmm..wondering how things will work out with them..Sharon and Irwin are coming to visit their daughter for Parents’ weekend. I can’t wait to see what will happen when they arrive to the school to see Dana. Will Dana introduced Alice to her parents as a friend or will she keep Alice in the dark?? Well I know you won’t disappoint me with your wonderful creation with our favorite ladies…Thanks again 4 your support with my story..AND keep up the good writing!!! PPS.

    4. When I saw the mentioning of Parents’ Weekend, I cringed…I despise it, almost as much as Sibs and Kids weekend…Helena and Bette are ridiculous, what did they fight over. Probably nothing serious enough to argue about….Alice and Dana are way cute…pps

    5. Just got back from a weeks holiday and was delighted to find all of your updates, which I have just caught up on. Fantastic story and wonderful writing. Danish forever!!!

    6. fripter, I read what you wrote to MT in “You”. Don’t you ever “feel ridiculously frivolous”, “Let It Ride” took place when the characters were much younger. You are doing a damn good job. First of all judging by all the comments, you should be proud of yourself. Secondly, LIR is your 1st Danish story and yet you have already captured our full attention. LIR is funny and entertaining. To top everything off, you show great respect in spending time responding to our comments. So there! As for the continuation of your story, if time is not an issue, you can go through year by year. Looking back at my college days, with holidays and vacations before, between and after the two semesters, 4 years went by really quickly. There can be many episodes about A on tour and D playing her tournaments, separating during holidays & vacations and getting back together. At the same time, you can have sub plots of S, B & H’s personal development. With your imagination, I am positive that you will have us laughing through out their college years. There could be many break ups and make ups too. By the time you are done with this, if I am correct, LIR will be the first significant Danish story concentrating on their college years. Back to the present. Thank you for an early post, I think it is better for all our health after all. As for this chapter, Sharon’s was on to D, Oooouch! Hopefully, D would not be crying like she was on the show. That really hurt. While D was worrying about her situation and future, having Harrison there was really supportive. B & G’ fight over the # of pages. That was funny. A said to D, “…about to jump out of the window. And D answered back, ” from boredom or hunger” that whole exchange, I had to pause in the middle of page 3 because I could not stop laughing. fripster, please continue with this awesome sitcom.

    7. I say go for whatever way that’ll make this story longer. It’s been a part of my routine now. . . oh wait! don’t really have one but please… don’t stop this now. I promise I’d still be here till the cows come home. sheesh where’d I get that… yeah another GREAT chapter! lurve this
