LOVE AND PRIDE Chapter 59
Helena checked in the mirror for the third time and happy that her hair looked great she grabbed her black jacket and headed downstairs. Bette was already in the car with the engine running. As soon as Helena climbed into the car Bette put her foot down and the car shot off down the quiet road and she took the first corner like a motor-racing driver at Monaco.
“If you are gong to drive like that Porter I will walk onto campus “
“I’m nervous okay “
“They are going to be fine “
“It’s their first mixed gig “
“And you think they have been getting all the cheers that they have because the audiences were all gay. I don’t think so Bette “
Bette smiled “ God I hope you are right “
“I am – I saw their final rehearsal last night and they were brilliant “
“God Helena I hope that they are – she is amazing “
“She has one hell of stage presence if that’s what you mean “
“So does Shane and Alice – it’s a great band “
“I only really see her “
“I know “
“But she lights up doesn’t she ?”
“Yes Bette – your lover is incredibly self assured when she is on stage and you must be very proud of her “
“I am – my heart just explodes with pride when I watch her in action and I know that she is mine “
“Pity with all that pride you cannot bring yourself to tell her that you are being chased by a vamp called Jodie “ Helena couldn’t resist the dig
Bette didn’t speak for several minutes as she drove onto campus
“Come on Bette – you know my feelings “
“Shane says the same “
“You spoke to Shane – when ? “
“A couple of nights ago “
“And what did she say ? “
“That I have to tell Tina because if it was the other way around and I found out that some woman was chasing her I would be hurt and angry “
“She is right – you would be devastated. You have to tell her even if its just to make light of it and say – look this woman is coming onto me – I have done nothing to encourage her but I want you to know that I am not interested in her “

Bette can do it. Tell Jodie to get lost already. If that doesn’t work, tell her that her girlfriend will kick her a**.

Ohh, drama. Honestly, these two are so fucking sweet together I couldn’t take it if Bette screws up. So, yo, please don’t go there. Plus, I think your girlfriend might really be mad if you did. So, you know, for the best situation all around let Bette’s alpha side come through to tell Jodie to back the hell off in no uncertain terms before things get crazy. Umm, seriously, please?
Bette should talk to Tina and tell her everything about Jodi. Comunication is so important.

Well Ally I can see where you’re coming from with this new development. It’s natural that two 18 year olds would have other admirers waiting in the wings. Bette and Tina are just that, 18 years old. Sometimes people can’t stand to see two people happy with one another. Great story!

Thanks for the post Ally. I really don’t know what is holding Bette back from telling this bitch to “step off” herself. You’re perfect definition of “Bette looking like a Prozac addicted rabbit in the headlights of a juggernaut” still has me laughing. I can see Bette now. Maybe the way Tina handled her “fan” will give Bette a clue. And I think it’s still a huge possibility that Shane and/or Helena will “help out”…everyone can use a little help from their friends once in awhile! Beautifully written once again! Can’t wait for the next one Ally!
Okay, okay. I feel some drama coming on… I could almost hear the dramatic music… All I can say to this, is please don’t. Please, no more Jodi (unless it’s to let Bette tell her to piss off), no more worries about people relentlessly coming on to Bette or Tina, no wayward chatting up/snogging/(or god forbid) shagging. Please. No heartbreak. Thank you. Since I’ve minded my manners, I’m sure you’ll grant my polite request, and any burgeoning Drama Queenliness has now been quashed. Right? Right, then. Great dramatic effect, Ally! I love the fact that Tina is so smart and perceptive… I totally trust that you won’t harm them and definitely won’t let anyone, let alone Jodie, fuck them up, but I’m guessing what you’re trying to serve us here… something quite natural and understandable when you’re 18 and sexually developping. I guess that’s something they have to face together, and I really hope that whatever the feelings, they’ll always be open and honest with each other. Thanks!

Feeling better Ally? Hope so. Just what exactly is in a snake bite? I sometimes forget how young the characters are, but Bette better find the guts to open up to Tina on the Jodie issue or she’ll have a far worse situation to deal with. Thanks for throwing in some Patti, some of her stuff ranks among my all-time favorites. I loved her induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year-the censors bleeped one of her songs so badly (a not-politically-correct term) the song became the audio version of swiss cheese. It was hilarious! Still the anti-establishment rebel!

Well how’s that for a shocker! Tina knows all about Bette’s not so secret admirer. And she is being very secure and mature about the whole situation and letting Bette learn to handle people coming on to her all on her own. And how great is it that Tina and Helena seem to be on better terms. Finally those house rules are being followed and Helena and Tina aren’t close to killing one another. The closer Tina and Helena can be the better it will be for Bette who i don’t think could choose b/w her sister and her girlfriend. If Bette had to choose either choice would leave her heart broken. So i don’t see any drama on the horizon……which can only mean that something huge is about to happen. What are you planning in that wicked little mind of yours Ally???
I don’t understand why this is such a big deal to her. If you don’t want to be w/someone like Jodi why not tell her politely at first more forcefully if need be to, “Step off.” Unless Bette is afraid of her attraction to Jodi and feels something for Jodi? Afterall, they are only 18 and to be exclusive to one person for the rest of your life and never desire anyone else is a tall order. And maybe not too realistic. PPS.

I knew that Tina knew about Jodi. So does Bette have a little bit of a crush. OMG I see so many scenarios in my head. I just hope our lovebirds grow stronger in time instead of falling apart because they can’t talk to each other! pps
Wow ! Fantastic chapter, Ally !!! I hadn’t realized Tina had that high-powered perception, but I love the fact that she wants to let Bette deal with this situation alone. For a 18-year old girl, she is very mature. I mean, I knew she was smart, but not that smart and “lucid”. Now, I would really love for Bette to find the courage to tell Tina about Jodi. I mean, I don’t see what the big deal is, I don’t understand why she’s so scared of telling her, especially since she obviously trusts her “soul mate” completely. Granted she needs to take care of this Jodi problem by herself, but no matter how she manages that, she definitely has to talk to Tina as well. I looooooved this chappie Ally. Thank you so much.

Bette is a verry intellegent woman and I am sure she will come to the conclusion that she needs to tell Tina about Jodi. As Tina said she knows Bette better than anyone other than Hel so she will know that Bette in no way lead this woman on, there will be jelousy on both thier parts but hopefully love will prevail unless you want send us into a tailspin. I always see these two enjoying a long life together.
