Loving Jenny – Chapter 5: Confessions In Blue

“Welcome to ‘Blue Night’ at The Planet! Have fun, everybody!” Kit boomed into the microphone before receiving applause. I smiled at Kit as she walked by, and I sipped some of my beer. Jenny soon walked over, clad in a tight blue sundress, smiling. She looked me up and down, examining my blue jeans and shirt.

“Hey,” Jenny said, taking a seat next to me.

    “Hey.”

“Kit, can I get a beer?”

“Sure, honey,” Kit said, leaning over, “what will it be?”

“Ah, whatever Shane’s having.” Kit moved and grabbed a blue bottle, pushing it her way. Jenny grabbed it and nodded, sipping it slowly.

“Hey, Carmen’s DJing. Have you said hi?” Jenny asked. I shook my head as I sipped from the bottle.

    “No. I haven’t.”

“Why not? Oh, I know why. Never mind.” I smirked at Jenny and leaned over, placing a kiss on her cheek. Sometimes she didn’t realize that what she asked or said was clearly in the obvious. I never treated her as if she were dim or stupid, for she wasn’t. She was just silly sometimes.

I leaned back against the bar, feet hooked on the stool rings. Jenny kept shifting her gaze from me to Carmen, and when I finally locked eyes with her, she smiled.

    “Is she really that stressful?”

“Yes. She is.” I wanted to stop talking about Carmen, and I’m sure by the way I sat and shifted my legs impatiently, she got the message. She placed her empty beer bottle on the bar and ordered a sour apple martini. She sipped, and then took her finger, tracing the rim of the glass with it. I turned my gaze on her.

“Can I be honest with you, Shane?”

    “Sure.” Jenny smiled.

“That day…my first day in here…I watched you through my fence.”

“Watched me?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. I could have sworn I saw her cheeks deepen with color.

“Watched you in the pool. With that girl.” I felt my eyes widen, and I couldn’t stop myself as a laugh escaped my throat. Jenny sipped her martini again, and I played with the neck of my beer bottle.

“Did you enjoy it, you big perv?” I asked, teasingly. Jenny laughed and nodded.

“Maybe I did.” I smiled and sipped my beer.
