    Somewhere flying over California, 2007

I have a crick in my neck to rival them all, I’d stretch but the last time I tried it my foot cramped and the woman sleeping next to me woke to my anguished cries, my tiredness is making me weepy.

I lay there in the darkness, late last night watching Jodi as she slept so soundlessly, jealous of her ability to sleep at peace and in ease. My own mind being tortured and wretched, more so there than ever before, as each night that slipped by my hours of slumber grew less and less, I wanted to wake her and own up to my thoughts but I was frightened I would scare her. I meant what I said when I told her I loved her, every word I allowed to leave my lips was true, I still do. She saw right through me from the instant we met and I love her for that, but I owed her an explanation, I owed it to her to explain that when I said it, I didn’t know it, but I was already falling in love again, with someone else.

Now I’m at peace, no longer worried about the day I’ll have to tell her that it’s over. I’m reminded of Tina on our third or fourth date, “You’re a heartbreaker, aren’t you?” she said, with a coy smile that she paid for later. I never had any intention of breaking anyone’s heart.

There was a time I did romance better than living or breathing, a time when it was in me to prove to her every second of the day that I was worthy of her love, and that would never stop. I’m sure that neither of us meant for that to ever change; back when it was normal to not get out of bed for days and days. There were times towards the end I longed to pin her down and ask, “Don’t you remember?” I could have done and it might have worked, if only I wasn’t terrified she might say “No.”

As we come in to land I realise I’m nervous, far more so than I was on my outward journey, I wasn’t really worried about Jodi’s saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’, just about Tina coming here to stop me. I sat there in the departure lounge, watching as the text on the blue screen rolled by, showing the flights, JFK edging its way towards the top and closer to being called. She didn’t come; it’s not like I ever expected her to, life isn’t like the movies, but I think I was afraid that she would and that if she did we’d have to deal with that moment.

    1. Hello Sofasitter, Thank you so very much. I’ve enjoyed this from the moment I read the first chapter. So lovely to have them back together. It will not be easy but they still have their love and have grown while being apart. They just need to tell each other just how much they’ve missed being with the other and GREAT it is being back. We CAN have them back together in fan fiction land, now can’t we. And it feels so good to read it.

    2. Aww. I really like this writing style. The internal dialogue.. is so deep. At the same time I’m half scanning below to see when they speak to each other next. Its almost scary how deep their connection is.. because even through all the BS it just seems like they always long to be together both in this story and at the end of the last season. PPS.

    3. A true Bette and Tina love story. They really belong together no matter how many times IC tries to cram Jodi down our collective throats. JoBette just doesn’t work. TiBette Forever!
