Say Nothing Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The Porter Gallery, in it’s fifth year of renown success was abuzz with anticipation. Bette and James her assistant (and so much more) were pacing cautiously in the conference room awaiting a call from Giselle, the personal assistant of an artist they were trying to lure to the California gallery. This artist was showing only in Europe although she was an American by birth, her success and reputation were built in the well regarded galleries of Paris and London primarily but, she was widely viewed as the most sought after contemporary artist the last ten years. New York galleries had, without success tried with all the weight of a New York showing to convince her to bring her work there but she was comfortable with her art filled, European lifestyle and though not temperamental by “artists standards” the young artist would never bring her work across the pond. She had her first works exhibited in Paris at the age of 22. Unheard of, that an artist so young would have the impact that her early work had provided. Her youthful eye and mind and talent did not betray her work. It was seen as created by someone with a life seemingly long lived and eyes that had seen it all through that long life. Those who were not familiar with the artist upon viewing her work, were surprised at her youthful age.
In as much as The Porter Gallery was in California, not generally seen as the most acutely, artistically prominent areas of the world, Bette Porter’s reputation was world renown and she had been the curator at two prestigious galleries in Paris before returning to California to open her own gallery. She was urged by artistic friends to settle in New York where artists and art collectors gathered but, having grown up on the east coast and having a more than mild dislike for winter, she was sure that she could establish a great galley in LA, do what she knows best, make a good living and never see snow again.
If the artist could be enticed to show her work in Bette’s California gallery, it would be the single biggest coup in the art world. Everyone in the States wanted her and had at one time or another tried to lure her. Bette had only met this artist once while in Paris but hoped that their conversation might be remembered. It was a conversation concerning the eye of the master Da Vinci. She had walked slowly through the Louvre and discussed the influences of Verrocchio on Da Vinci’s work. Bette’s forte’ was contemporary art however her Yale art history degree and subsequent work/study in Paris had certainly accelerated her appreciation of the masters. The young artist agreed that Verrocchio’s teachings were apparent, she argued however that she felt it more in his sculpting than in his painting. A valid argument Bette agreed. But, then again who was she to have disagreed. This young artist was talented beyond her years, sought after, praised as the next generations master and, she was beautiful. Bette was never one to argue with a beautiful woman.

What a great beginning you are giving us. I can’t wait to read the next chapter. pps
Hello djrk… well that was quite a start you got there… I love the prospect of Tina as an artist… a creator… and for Bette this opportunity will only allow her to showcase her passion and desire for Art… but most importantly for life… I feel it would be so beautiful to see Bette go to Tina in France and experience the ‘life’ of art with an artist… and through this art and this love they ‘might’ just develop something that has been missing within both of their lives… a soul to share their passions with… who cares about everyone else if Tina found ‘the’ one person who could see her art and read her soul she would be complete… and if Bette could be the inspiration for the art that she loves so dearly then she would forever be immortalized in that which she loves… I can feel a very cat and mouse game coming on here… and it would also be interested if another gallery might jump in and try to claim ‘Tina’ for themselves… keep on rocking this one out of the part, sincerely, JC
a brilliant start, can’t wait to read more!! ppvvvvvvvvvvvvs!!
