    Say Nothing Chapter 4

    Chapter 4

Bette spent a few hours enjoying the museum then hailed a cab for the ride back to her hotel. Lying on the bed, Bette couldn’t help but wonder why Tina was single. Had she always been single. The thought came to her that she was single as well. Why was she single? Bette Porter had had some very exciting, exotic and talented women on her arm over the years and her reputation was somewhat legendary. She dated beautiful women. She didn’t seem to get caught up in the “she’s the one” mantra. She was a work-a-holic, she had great friends and she wasn’t lonely or alone for that matter unless she chose to be. There was the actress, the writer and the opera signer to keep her company if she or they were so inclined. It seem to be a good fit. The women all knew each other and were friends. It just seemed to work.  But, back to Tina Kennard. Why was she single?

Tina had indicated that tonight’s attire would be a bit more formal and that she would be at Bette’s hotel at 8:00 to pick her up.

Bette got up from the bed and her thoughts and readied the shower. She was going to make an impression on Tina tonight one way or the other. She wanted this exhibit and she was going to find a way to convince Tina to acquiesce.

She had packed a black gown. It’s low cut front with draped fabric over each breast and even lower cut back may pique someone’s curiosity while they were out. No sense spending the entire trip in Paris alone. These types of dinners often offered up as many introductions and business cards from women as from men. In some circles her name was still known in Paris even though she had been in LA for several years now.

It was 7:50 and Bette took one last look in the mirror. Her beautiful dark hair lay softly curling over her exposed shoulders, her make up was impeccable and her dress clung to her body in all the right places. She was ready for dinner and to convince Tina Kennard that a US exhibit in her gallery would have extraordinary results. She grabbed her small bag and a scarf for her shoulders and made her way down to the lobby of her hotel.

    1. I love this story. Both Bette and Tina are so beautiful, civilized, witty, and charming. I’m loving the details about art and painting that crop up in the story. Can’t wait for them to acknowledge feelings for each other…very very slow burn. Thanks

    2. I have no doubt that James can keep his mouth shut, but Bette made the rather fatal mistake of telling Alice she was trying to get Tina’s show… that can’t bode well. Post when you can, thanks.

    3. Hi, DJRK! This is getting better and better! Magnificent update. Can’t wait for your nest chappy. We are so loving this beautiful and different story. PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)
