    Seventeen Reasons Why – Ten

Maybe she should have stayed to talk to Tina.
    No.

What would have been the point?

    Tina didn’t trust her.

And she didn’t fucking need Tina to question everything she fucking did. She sipped from her glass of wine glaring into the dark red liquid.

“Okay. So you just left it like that? I’m confused. What happened?”

“That’s just it. I don’t really know. I was there tonight. We got into a heated discussion. Then I was talking and then I came home. And now you’re here.”

“How can you not know? This happened to you, Bette.”

“But it was…weird. I don’t know. We were doing so well and–“

“Wait! You said two weeks,” Alice interrupted.

“Two weeks passed before they talked about it, Al,” Shane answered for Bette.

“So you two had sex and then just didn’t talk about it?”

“We just didn’t bring it up.”

“And I thought I was one for avoidance,” Shane mused stretching sideways on the lounger placing her legs across Alice’s lap.

“It wasn’t that! We weren’t avoiding it. There was just no point in bringing it up.”

    The protest was weak.

    Bette was just making excuses.

“And you got into a fight right after the sex? About that Candace stuff, huh? I warned you.” Alice persisted.

“It wasn’t so much a fight. She left angry and I was confused. And angry too. And fuck you Alice.”

“And you’re telling us this because? And at least I’ve got a girlfriend Bette,” Alice smirked.

“Because you asked. And I told you.”

“So you don’t want advice?” Shane asked.

“Why would I need advice?” Bette asked sarcastically.

“Because you’re you,” Alice said smartly.

“Look you two aren’t together. Fine. We’ve been down this road before. You two will dance this circle ’round and ’round.”

Bette winced at Shane’s carefree tone.

“But she’s mad at me. I mean still. About Candace. I’ve told her how sorry I am about that. I just can’t keep apologizing.”

“Yeah. Chicks don’t dig it when you stray,” Shane mumbled her eyes closing.

“Don’t listen to Shame–I mean Shane. She’s high and doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

“Whatever,” Bette muttered downing the rest of the wine in her glass.

Where had she put that wine bottle?

“Not whatever! Bette you’re so fucking dumb,” Alice exclaimed. “Do you not see why Tina’s still angry with you? You’re like totally dismissive of her feelings.”

    1. Sometimes those pop-ups do come in handy. This particular one just may save Bette and Tina from hurting each other more than usual. Alice and Shane really are B&T’s best friends and want to see them together again.

    2. Great job speedy! I actually agree with Bette in this case though – why do women always get historical when something goes wrong? It’s years ago, and people do change… but it’s just me… :D Anyways, I really do enjoy your writing… Do continue!

    3. THEY NEED TO TALK!!!!!!!!! Yeah, Bette really is clueless sometimes and thinks those catch-all gestures (candy and flowers) will fix stuff. Tina told her that wouldn’t work the day of the grant announcement. Even with all that water under the bridge, it still won’t happen! A lot of stuff got buried, and it’s gonna surface sooner or later. If these two stand a chance, it’s gotta be sooner! This is some good stuff–PPS!

    4. I am loving this story! But I have to agree with a couple of comments. I am a Tibette through & through, I love both these characters. Bette did wrong, plain & simple & has to make amends but Tina…I know a woman scorned but since Helena through to the Henry thing & everything inbetween, she has acted with cruelty. She needs to make amends to Bette big time! I’m glad you’re going to get Tina to do her share of grovelling as some just paint Bette as the baddie. I still want them back together though. Were they belong. pps

    5. I kind of don’t see why Bette has to do the groveling thing, more than two years after the fact. If Tina doesn’t believe that Bette’s sorry after all this time, what are flowers and chocolate going to do? They do need to do some serious talking, though. Great chapter, thanks Speed.

    6. I’m with jp22. I don’t understand why it’s always Bette’s fault in the end and she’s the one that has to move mountains. I still love the story though. :O)

    7. Well because to me Bette never seemed to acknowledge just how hurt Tina was, imo. She just seemed to think sorry was as far as she was going to go. And hey candy and flowers aren’t going to fix this. I just want to open her eyes and see how she has a blind spot where emotions are sometimes. Of course I’m not going to leave Tina out of this. She’ll grovel too and it’ll be an equal effort. Truly I thought they’d just gloss over it, but that just didn’t come out when I wrote all this. Bette needs to back up her words with actions in regards to saying sorry. And Tina needs to actually stop being scared and take a leap of faith. It’s coming. Thanks so much for the comments.

    8. I guess it makes sense now. LOL@Alice and Shane! Too bad Dana is dead because we could’ve gotten more comic relief from her due to her being so clueless.
