stay-part 2
The sun warm, a gentle breeze that cleanses the soul…..all but mine. The flicker of the lighter and the flame dances in the wind, rising and falling swirling until it gives out. The thick mushy feel of the filter and I have to stop to turn away from this breeze so I can taste the smoke that fills me. The loud scrapping of metal against skin, and I hear this laughter that moves with the breeze. Clear, smooth as it flows past me and I have this need to find it. This urge to hear it again, the large links of the fence providing this window for me to see through.
She stands surrounded by others, faceless people who talk to her, who made her laugh. That breeze making her hair fly around her, and her hand keeping it out of her face. Her smile wide, it’s strange but it…it makes my heart beat faster, it makes it stop when she says something. And I try to catch what ever she says as it moves in the air. Her lips moving in this entrancing way, she bites her bottom lip before she smiles again. I can’t pull away, I stare at my shoes not sure what to do and I can see her shirt buttoned half way. A dark grey shirt underneath, blood red letters faded disappearing as she walks away, her skirt fluttering around her legs.
A blaring sound, cutting through making my pulse race. This sinking feeling that I have to leave that I may never see her again.
“Hey there you are, come on I don’t have all day.” she looks back over her shoulder, a shadow of a smile still on her lips. “Are you coming or what?”
Turning away my hand still on the fence, her eyes masked behind this large bug style sunglasses. She smiles, different colder than before. Her hands poised on the steering wheel, waiting for me like she always does. Looking back for one more glance, for one last look and I jump into the car saying good bye to the nameless girl. She leans in for a kiss and her perfume a little too sweet like she changed it. The wheels turn, we stand in between time suspended in air, and she stares her hand rising gracefully in a little wave. This lump in my throat and time elapses, one minute I see her and then the heavy scent of the ocean fills the air around us. The crashing sounds of the waves breaking on the sand, and the cool clean house lays splayed out in all its glory.
