Strictly Roommates – Chapter 9
Previously:
“I thought it’d be nice for the front door. Our first joint purchase for the house,” Bette blushed slightly.
Tina contemplated this for a moment before nodding her head.
“It’s perfect.”
Tina couldn’t explain the plethora of feelings she was experiencing, nor was she willing to analyze them. She knew how inappropriate it would be to act on these feelings. In her heart, she believed that it was better to keep Bette close to her as a friend, than to push her away by wanting to be more.
###
Over the following few weeks, both Bette and Tina had made good on the secret vows they had made themselves to keep their relationship platonic. While it was difficult for both women, the shared and common goal was to sustain a friendship.
Friendship with Tina was so easy to fall into. It seemed after just a few weeks that Bette had known Tina her entire life. Not only was Tina nurturing and supportive, but she was also witty and surprising. Full of her own anecdotes. Full of idiosyncrasies. Bette was hyper-aware of her presence, in the way that you study every miniscule detail of a new lover as if their time is limited.
Bette, for instance, knew that Tina always put her left sock on first, but her right sneaker. She knew that Tina had to check the coffee pot twice before leaving in the morning, to make sure that it was turned off. A few weeks of close and undivided attention had also made Bette fairly decent at reading Tina’s moods; she could determine how good or bad Tina’s workday was by measuring the degrees between her furrowed eyebrows and the slouch of her shoulders. On the bad days, Bette’s affection and sympathy served as the ultimate panacea for Tina.
It was a Friday night when Bette and Tina found themselves at the Planet, having dinner with the girls. Bette was so grateful that her friends are taken a genuine liking to Tina. Tina could banter with the best of them, and she could keep up with Alice’s antics. Those reasons alone would have been enough to garner inclusion.
The girls were sitting down to have a relaxing, post-work week dinner. They talked loosely about their weeks, filling each other in and making each other laugh. It was then that Alice mentioned Milk.

eek….tsk tsk tsk…I love Alice regardless. She’s always a good catalyst :D I love the story btw. Keep em’ coming?
Why bring other women into the house? There’s two of you there already. That should be enough. :) I love this story. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
Ah! Three’s company! Rules are made to be broken! Jealousy may just prove to be the catalyst they need. :-) I like how you describe the evolution of their friendship and feelings. Great story, thank you atlasundone!
Two’s company and three’s or four’s a committee.
There’s already two women in the house already! LOL Loving this story. Please post soon.
God Alice with her bad mouth lol!
I agree completely with bombasticbully lol. I’m curious as how the crowd at Milk won’t react only on Bette but also Tina, she’s the “fresh meat” after all. Btw, I only used that term for a lack of better words ;)
