Talk to Me of Mendocino ~ Part One, Chapter Two
The Motel 6 was functional and clean, much to Tina’s surprise. She found the contrast amusing—they had arrived on her private plane to stay at the famously inexpensive motel. Multi-rig trucks surrounded the one of the two SUVs that had been driven by the rental car company to the small airstrip for use during their stay. The nanny was using the second SUV to take her daughter Serafina to the lodge.
She thought that her presence at the symposium was problematic, even if her presence was several miles away from the lodge and she would not attend, and even if no one else thought it would be problematic. She had examined her motives again and again, but was convinced that she was there solely because of her policy of making sure that her daughters, their ages separated by two decades, shared as many milestone events, happy or sad, as possible.
Tina had tried to get Anna, her ex and Serafina’s other mother, to take their daughter to this event, but Anna and her partner had readings at Berkeley, Anna from her novel in progress and the partner from her current volume of poetry. Tina had briefly considered sending Fina across the continent with her nanny.
Her doubts had made it a last minute trip. Her staff was still scrambling to find a house to rent instead of the low budget motel. Since they hadn’t yet been successful, Tina sat on the edge of a lumpy mattress and ran her hand through her hair. She opened the large FedEx box that her office had sent in advance, filled with linens, blankets, towels, pillows, and a Tempurpedic mattress pad, and began to re-do the room.
Tina’s staff had followed her standard instructions and had booked the rooms in the quietest section of the motel. There was no way those staffers could know that rooms in a very isolated section, far from the main entrance, might be unsafe. A concerned Tina regretted that she had not brought security.
Her staff had scrambled to find a house to rent and had finally found one that would be available the next day and had leased it for a week.

I was so happy to see a post of this story. Maybe there is hope for tibette.
I love this story and look forward to more. Thank you.
Glad you updated this story. It has me intrigued
I didn’t know The Swimming Song. What I remembered was Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road, which would be extra fragrant in the late summer sunshine. Go on, skunk, stink for me one time. Spumoni, you don’t need a hard cover to be loved and respected. It’s just as real even if the medium of the internet is ephemeral.
Oh, and I forgot to thank you for killing Jodie. Thank you!
Yes, thank you for killing Jodie but just having to think about Bette and her for any length of time icks me out and takes me out of the mood. But I love this story. Can we please have some scenes with Tina and her two daughters together? Just the three of them? Thanks.
Spumoni, I double, no make that triple everything that funnyone said. To say that I hate the jodi character is an understatement to immense proportions. Thanks for writing her out from the beginning. Hopefully, we won’t have to hear her name after the next couple of chapters. Thanks for posting.
there’s always “What If” with B&T…i’m so not a JoBetter but i’m interested to see what happened between B&T in all these years and if Bette still loves Tina and if there’s still a chance…you write, i’ll read :)
Ditto what B&TF said. PPS!
I love everything about this story and can’t wait for someone to ‘teleport’ a sandwich or something! I love the family dynamics of the three kids all sharing Marcus as their father- this is all very plausible. Lastly- i loved Tina’s imaginary game of ‘whack-a-mole’ with her emotions on the flight out, wonderful. :)
Don`t give up Tina!PPS
Oh and dittos for offing Jodi too.
Now calling folks Jobetter to get comments is hitting below the belt. :) Love the story PPS
‘OMG, you killed Jodi!’ (do they know sign language on South Park?…) But hey, I was very happy to read this part: ‘…my story and I will stick to it until my dying day or retirement, whichever cones first.’ Not sure what the ‘cones’ part means, but it does make it sound like you are determined to stick it… ;-) thanks for the update!
I love reading all you write. Excellent update and writing. Thank you.
Spumoni…any body with an Italian ice-cream pen-name…rocks in my world. If I didn’t have my current pen-name, I’d change it to “Gelato.” Spumoni conjures up thoughts of colorful, tasty with many flavors, cool, trendy-European. You simply rock! Now back to your story…the “whack-a-mole” somehow brought memories of your wolves (who knows why?) Hah-hah…just a reminder, that we want more howling! Maybe not in your Mendocino story…waiting to see the reconnection take place of our Tibette.
