    Later Bette talked about her work. She had mentioned Jodi Lerner to me, off and on during the past several months that we had been living together, but she never brought her up to the kids. They were intrigued with the fact that Jodi was so accomplished, even the college’s resident artist, in spite of being handicapped with deafness.

    The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Howie (Part 1, Chapter 2)
    PART ONE: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

    Chapter 2

    “Hi Tina. How are you?”

    “Stressed! I’m running my ass off all over this studio putting out fires.”

    “Oh, sorry. Well, I won’t keep you. I just wanted to ask a favor of you. My Kyle is in your area and I wondered if he could pick up Angie just for the night. Then I’ll take her to preschool first thing in the morning.”

    “You know Sissee that’s probably a great idea because I don’t see me getting out of here until after 9 p.m. anyway. Things are pretty hectic.”

    “Sorry to hear that.”

    “Well, you know……that’s show biz!”

    We laughed.

    She added, “Look, tell Kyle to ask the nanny for a car seat. She keeps one of our spares in her car.”

    “Great, he’s on his way. I appreciate it.”

    “Have fun,” she said and hung up.

    Since Bette and Tina made peace and realized harmony between them was in the best interest for the baby, she was more than fair with Bette spending time with Angelica. I wished I could say the same thing about Howie’s attitude. He never missed a chance to give us a bad time. I was so grateful that my kids were older and I could communicate with them directly.

    I called Kyle back and gave him a heads up. Then I decided to make it a family event which would take the sting out of going to Don Jose’s for Bette. I called Mary and Charlie.

    Mary was fine with it and said she would see me at home. Charlie, who was also a senior but chose to live with his dad, was less enthusiastic. Just like his father he did not want to make things easy for me but in the end, he did agree to meet at the apartment before six.

    Bette never had an ideal childhood so she was determined to do the best she could for her daughter, in spite of the split circumstances between she and Tina. By now she knew that the best thing she could give Angelica was love and attention. It was her exclusive gift to her every time they were together and it was a joy to see.

    2. What a happy family there! Again, I love it. The interaction among the three adult children, Angie, Bette & Sissee are so lovely. So nice to know that Angie loves his big brother Kyle. This paying the bill does indicates that Kyle is a mature young man. I like him more and more in the story. Can’t wait until the next chapter and read what romantic words Sissee will reveal to Bette! :-)

    3. I love seeing them as one big happy family. Can’t wait for some good lovin’ in the next chapter. I love Gwen Stefani too, but I have no idea what a Hollaback Girl is? :) Maybe you could enlighten me!

    4. Hey gum, Thanks for your kind words. No, by now you know I don’t held back on the love making, so stay tuned. By the way, when I wrote this story, on another site which has been dismantled now, (we called it Betteville) every time I wrote one of those love making chapters it got deleted and I would have to email the chapters to my readers. I actually liked doing it because not everyone posted, they just would read. But when they knew it was deleted, they came forward to give me their email addresses to send the chapters to. Someone advised me to go to fanfic because they don’t delete, but I never did until this year and this is where I will finish the adventure stories before the year is over.

    5. Bette’s Babe, Thanks for the comments. I’m glad you get that there had to be a chapter to show how well everyone is getting along. Now it’s time to move along into something heavier.

    6. Originally, a holla back girl was a member of a cheerleading squad who repeats – hollers back – words that the squad leader shouts out to them. Now, it means a girl who doesn’t stand up for herself, allowing guys to do whatever they want with her and she follows them, or ‘hollas back’ at them. In Gwen’s song, she’s letting guys know that she ain’t a booty call and she’s not the type who sits around waiting for them to “holla back”. Hope that helps.
