The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner Schmidt After Tina (Part 2, Chapter 16)

    PART TWO: MAUI

    Chapter 16

It was slowly getting dark outside but not so dark that Bette and I could not see each other’s facial features as we lay close together in that hammock. I brought my right hand up and slipped my fingers into her hair as we both just looked into each other’s eyes, still breathing hard but gradually coming down. She brought her hand up too and touched one side of my face, gently caressing it.

    “That was nice,” she whispered.

    “Yes, it was.”

“I feel so close to you.”

    “I know,” I said.

“It’s amazing, after all those years of just being friends.”

“I would have crossed over that line a thousand times for you.”

“Maybe it was all just meant to be, to make what we have now, all the sweeter.”

“Sweet is nice but intense is more like it.”

    “It is intense,” she said.

“It may sound odd but no one has ever made me feel like this before, not even you.”

“I agree. It’s even better than it was before.”

My stomach began to rumble, very audibly. We both smiled at the intrusion.

“Sounds like you’re hungry,” said Bette.

    “Aren’t you?”

    “Yes.”

“Do we have to go out?”

    “It’s up to you.”

“How about if we just figure out how to get out of this hammock, pick up our clothes, take our wine upstairs, put something comfortable on, dig out the banana bread and sit outside at the table with our chairs real close and canoodle over the bread and wine?”

    “No fancy restaurant?”

“Is that important to you?” I asked.

    “No.”

That then, is what we did, just she and I enjoying our last Maui night together, as it got darker and darker and more and more stars filled the sky above. No Jeep, no five star restaurant, no people. Our phones were off and our hearts were full of love.

We talked about our immediate future. We knew that in 24 hours our lives would change. I would have that talk with Howie and then my kids, one by one if it worked out that way and she would, with determination, be able to communicate with Tina. If Tina would not answer her cell, then Bette was going to find her and confront her about the baby, even if it became two against one, with Henry there.

    1. Sissee, it was sad to see B & S spending the last day in Maui together. They did have something memorable to remember about – nice scenaries, hammock, love making…etc… It is nice to see the wedding between L&P at the almost end of this chapter. Yeah, I also wonder about how the wedding might affect B&S.

    2. I also wonder what affect the wedding has on B&S. Probably a romantic, passionate one. Great update!!…I’m getting nervouse about the next few updates the return to LA. Take care!

    3. September, Oh my, I do hope you’re not all disappointed in Bette and Sissee’s reaction. It will mostly be a fleeting thought on Sissee’s part since the story is written in her first-person. Maybe they’ll talk more about it when they get on that airplane, going home.

    4. kbergin47, Thank you for your comment. To tell the truth I was not quite sure how to handle it so I offered the task to one of my avid readers. She emailed me her input and while I did add quite a lot, I truthfully have to admit it was a joint effort. She was more of a church goer than I so she knew the right words.
