The Journey to You – Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Day 18. Somewhere in San Francisco.
Bette had opened the bottle of wine after Tina walked out, and, after downing ½ the bottle, had decided to walk back to the motel while drinking the other ½. Why hadn’t it gone like she planned it? Why was Tina so upset? She was tired of them fighting. They were less than 3 weeks into their relationship and they seemed to spend more time arguing than anything else.
She stumbled towards the motel room and knocked loudly on the door. Within moments the door cracked open and Tina let Bette in before returning to bed. There was take out on the dining table and the TV was on. Tina did not make eye contact with Bette, still fuming from their previous discussion, she gestured towards the food.
“There’s food if you’re hungry.”
“I’m not”
Tina did not respond, continuing to watch TV.
“Tee… can we please talk? What happened back there?” Bette remained standing by the door, the empty bottle of wine still in her hand.
“I don’t know Bette, you tell me.”
“I was just trying to do something nice… I honestly thought you would like it.”
“It was a great apartment.”
“But?”
“But I can’t afford it Bette.”
“I can.”
“Then you live there.”
“Tee…”
“Bette, I’m living on a budget. This move is costing me more than I had planned. When I first got the job in LA, Sam was coming with me and -”
“What does Sam have to do with this?”
“Nothing. I’m not talking about Sam. I’m trying to explain. Sam was coming with me. We were going to share the costs of the move, the apartment in LA, everything. Now, I’m paying for the LA apartment on my own, paid for the removalists on my own. On top of that, I have added paying to have my stuff in storage in LA for a few months while I also paying to live in a motel until I move. I don’t have money to throw around Bette.”
“Ok. But Tina, I do. I can afford this. You are working so hard to move to LA faster, but you’re wearing yourself out. You’re living on take away food and working 16 hour days. You’re going to be burnt out by the time you move to LA. If we move to the apartment, we can cook, we can relax and have some semblance of a life for the next 3 weeks instead of this recluse lifestyle you’ve set yourself up with.”

“Can we compromise?” Finally, a relationship-saver line that they both agreed on. Their relationship so far can be likened to a scary rollercoaster ride. One moment they are at the bottom of the pits, fighting, the next moment they are scaling new heights with their passion. But I have hopes that they’ll make it. I’m pulling for them both that they’ll work on their shortcomings, get to know each other better and love each other deeper. You write scenes “swirling with tension” quite well, tibetteporter. Yeah, brava and thank you! :>
I’m glad Tina was able to talk to Bette and tell her why she got so upset about the apartment. They need to let each other know what is going on in thier heads so they can move forward and not fight so much. Bravo Bette for understanding and compromising. PPS
wow lucky Bette, thank you so much, that was HOT, but Tina needs to be a little easy on Bette, her being defensive is not going to help them move forward into their relationship. Post soon and have a beautiful evening dear.
Tina got to stop walking out and Bette need to start talking more to Tina. Tina is used to being her own boss thank you for posting.
Well, talking about these things is definitely the key. They both made mistakes, but they resolved them together, which is how it should be. But, there is also nothing wrong with doing sweet things for each other as long as they are both doing them. For Bette, it wasn’t about money, it was about doing something nice for Tina. Instead of getting agry and walking out, she could have said she appreciated it but….and explained her feelings to Bette. It would have been the more mature solution and they would have had the same results.
Glad they talked through that and hot hot hot make up sex! PPS
Tina’s point was valid, but she needs to communicate better. Bette’s gesture was sweet and kind and I am glad she was able to see where Tina was coming from after she talked to her. I hope that they can learn to talk before fighting.
Glad that Bette gets it and that they talked it through….pps
Why didn’t Tina explain her feelings from the get go? She is somewhat of a hothead and a bit immature. Maybe that’s one of the things that Bette loves about her b/c the make-up sex is torrid. PPS.
I seem to be in the minority. Bette’s grand gestures are sweet, but Tina’s point is a valid and important one. She needs to communicate it better – no more walking out – but when someone is working 16 hour days, her nerves will be frayed. That’s just human. Bette is learning, too, that in a relationship big decisions need to be made together – and that’s great. Thanks, TBP. PPS!
Communication is key, but I too love the grand gestures.
I am with banana.. the relationship is still early, these things bound to happen but its great they are resolving their issues through proper communication.
i agree with banana to… still early days and there lots of learning still to be done.. i think it’s great that bette was thinking of tina, but in the beginning they both need to learn to talk…:)PPS
That was so good. I just hope Tina stops walking out and she learns to talk to Bette about what she is feeling and the same goes for Bette. Thanks
Awesome resolution to their latest snafu. Geez, banana… you and I are always on the same page. I totally agree. Communication is the key: stressed, tired, or otherwise. tibetteporter: excellent job, yet again. I can’t believe how excited I get when I see a new chapter of this fic pop up. Keep up the great work and PPS.
THAT was definitely some wonderful make-up sex. These two are struggling to find out who they are in their relationship. It’s going to be a while before they are on more equal footing. I wonder if Tina will keep her apartment in LA or if she will be convinced to move in with Bette. After 3 weeks of living together in SF, I think it will be hard for both of them to return to living in their own places. Wonderful story…PPS!
