    The L Wing – chapter 191

    THE L WING – Chapter 191

Narration of President Bette Kennard Porter

I look around the room with some satisfaction – all the dust sheets are down and I have everything I need to make a start on painting the nursery for my daughter. Just a quick check – ladders, brushes, emulsion -lots of it – tins of white paint, white spirit and bits of old towels ripped into small rags for cleaning my hands and wiping the inevitable drops up. All the furniture that was in this room is now either in the garage or the attic.

“Ready to start?” I smile at my co-worker

    “Sure am Bette “

Leigh has come over to stay with us for a couple of days and as insisted that nothing would give her more pleasure than helping me turn the bedroom next to our room into the nursery for my baby who is due in 8 weeks. Tina has gone shopping with her mom and Lucy for curtains and bedding. She has finally relented and agreed that with eight weeks to go she needs to start some serious shopping. So armed with our joint double platinum credit card I have let her loose. Emma and Lucy have been phoned by me and told to make sure she spoils herself and the rest of the family as well as buying whatever we will need for our baby.

“I get the feeling that Tina would be happy if you had just hired a decorator “

“I know that -my practical skills have been seriously called into question in the last couple of weeks since I said that I wanted to do this “

I get a screwdriver and lever off the lids of the tins of emulsion.

“And that annoys you?” Leigh smiles

“Let’s just say that just because I am the President doesn’t mean that I cannot turn my hand to practical things. Did you know that Churchill”

    “Yes – built walls “?

I laugh “That’s becoming a well worn record isn’t it?”

    “Just a bit “

“Look – not much is happening at the moment in Washington – neither house is sitting, virtually every other world leader is at their summer retreat – the only thing that would get any of them back would be a major crisis. I am sure that France and Germany are being run by some office junior -Italy might be better off if it was all the time. If the dark powers who loathe western democracies bombed the State Building the only causalities would be the rats in the boiler room. The only reason I was in Washington during the week is that I’m not taking my holidays until September. Even then there are things that I cannot avoid -like the 9/11 commemoration events “

    1. I’ve never understood why Tina thought Bette was a klutz when she’s had a great many demonstrations of her physical prowess. Pity about the levis though.

    2. LOL… and again, the Levi’s ad at the bottom of the page… So funny! Hey, is it just me, or is a “dirty” President Porter, wearing a messy pair of Levi’s full of paint stains, one of the hottest things ever???

    3. Nice to see Bette and Leigh getting along so well. But here is my question, so far Bette has talked to the following people about Alice and Lucy: Lucy, Leigh, Tina. Why hasn’t she talked to Alice??? One of her oldest friends? Maybe that friendship really is over. Too bad b/c as much as Tina can’t stand Alice I think Bette needs her friends (both Shane and Alice) in her life. PPS!

    4. OH! You better RUN! THE LEVIS?!?!?! You had to go there with the Porter Levis didn’t ya? The chapter was great Hun and I loved the playfulness between Bette and Tina! Humble pie with fingers or fork..LOL! I’ll forgive you for the Levis if you make the next one an NC while the back scrubbing is going on! LOL!

    5. LOL! Not the LEVI’s…AHhhhh! I’m with Gumby on this one. Need an NC-17 for next chappie in order to get over the “desecration” of one pair of Porter Levi’s. **I think it’s a small price to pay, don’t you Ally?***PS.

    6. Hello Ally, Still loving the L Wing. Gal, it just gets better and better. Just loved reading how Bette and Leigh were bonding. Good to have some family time. Sweet to read the honest and open relationship that they are building. Then Tina managed to eat her words and suffer a little at Bette’s teasing. Perfect. Can’t wait to see what happend next in this wonderful world you have written. Thank you so much for sharing it with me. Your Loyal Fan.

    7. Haven’t seen a comment from Jo, must be plotting her revenge! The Levis sound salvageable…. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Oh, How I look forward to tub time!!
