    Chapter 225

     

    Narration of First Lady Tina Kennard Porter

     

    Its probably lucky for our marriage that just as Bette drops her little bombshell her secured phone line rings and I have to take Ella so that Bette can get on with affairs of state. I get up and stroll around the small space of the helicopter – Christ I hate these freaking machines. But Ella is grumpy and fighting sleep and probably wants her other momma and not me. But Bette is deep in conversation with either Shane or Alana. I am speechless – she really believes that her mother is still alive -sweet Jesus – I have to kill this one. There is no way that I can really let her do this – I cannot let her get her hopes up that her mother is still alive. She is the President – things are getting hot on the International stage.

     

    She has a international summit in Dublin in January – we still haven’t decided whether I am going to go with her and if I do what then happens to Ella – I know that neither of us really wants to spend a few days without Ella Elizabeth – our daughter means the world to both of us. And the last thing that she needs is to have her head almost totally on some wild goose chase. Bette – you cannot do this babe.

     

    It dawns on me that if you are really going to look at this dispassionately – then I have set this rock rolling down the mountain – I have to stop the rock becoming an avalanche.

     

    Okay – how do I do this ? Don’t over-react for a start. The worst thing that I can do with Bette is pour scorn on her – that will just make her even more determined. I have to handle this – does she really believe that her mother is still alive ?

     

    The journey takes another 15 minutes and we don’t speak – she is too wrapped up in her conversation and I am trying to get Ella to fall asleep. We arrive in Virginia and Bette finally puts her phone away and looks at me

    2. They should be able to do a simple records check since death is a matter of public record. No matter what her name was her social security number wouldn’t change. If she needs to know, she needs to know. Although, I find it hard to believe nobody would have dug it up in investigating her past. I wouldn’t put it past Melvin/Kit to lie about it. They have always been very self-righteous in their actions.

    4. let bette search for her mom; there needs to be closure for her and she hasn’t got that from kit and melvin. i think tina is an incredibly wise and supportive wife. Thx for this chapter.

Oh this is gonna be a good one coming up as it relates to Bette’s mother, etc. I don’t blame Bette for wanting to know about her mother and this is a very fine line that they must try to negotiate together. I would not for one moment doubt that Melvin is lying through his teeth. Someone needs to make inquiries without Melvin knowing. The man has a long reach and very powerful and could possibly stop a search if he finds out first that they want to search. This will be very interesting. Bette does have a right to know the truth. If Tina finds something out she needs to be totally honest with Bette even if it hurts, Bette needs to know the truth, no matter how awful. It’s called closure.Great chapter AllyE.     6. What a pleasant surprise . Posting a chapter after losing so much of your work to the hard drive. Thank You for your work and your story. I do hope Bette patches things up with Melvin and Kit at some point.

    7. I know Tina is trying to do the right thing and keep Bette’s heart safe but dealing with this issue isn’t something that can be scheduled. Bette also needs to understand that she needs to be subtle about her searching she is the President after all (though when you are dealing with personal issues you rarely have any subtle options). I am so glad you got a chapter to rise from the ashes as I truly love your writing.

    12. There Tina goes getting all authoritarian on Bette again. I know her intentions are good, but if I were in Bette’s situation I would want to know and as soon as possible. This is her mother after all, not something that should be fit in around a schedule of holiday parties. And will a delay really do anything to relieve her stress or will it add to it?

    13. Poor Bette missing her mom. She can have mine. No, that’s not even funny. Sorry. Good that she has Tina taking care of her. I wish I have me a Tina too to help sort out my life. Sigh!

    15. Ally – I love the L Wing and am so glad you retrieved this from the computer monster. Tina is being very protective and for the most part honest in her conversation with Bette – it is a wonderfully sweet relationship ou have drawn and I appreciate it so much. Tina best not go behind Bette’s back in any way IMO or she could create a worse problem.

    16. tina is trying to get bette back to being focused. i’m surprised that bette hasn’t instructed shane to make inquires right away. what if bette’s mom made melvin think she was dying and had him sent a fake death certificate so she could start a” fresh life” and melvin really thought she was dying…. bette needs answers and she should get them as fast as she can. Ally thanks for the update this just gets better and better :)PPS

    17. This is one of my first comments on FanFiction… but i want you to know that you have such a way with words. This entire series of stories is fabulous… and it keeps getting even more interesting!!! I hope that Bette finds closure… and that Tina continues to be supportive and know that this is something that Bette does need to handle on her own terms…. PPS, like REALLY REALLY SOON!!!
